CAISTOR CENTRE, Ont. (May 28, 2019) – Team Turner Racing was finally able to get all three cars on track at Ohsweken Speedway’s 24th season opener on Friday, May 24. Cory Turner debuted his No.13 Burger Barn/Ace 1 Construction/Mobil 1 car on Canadian soil for the first time and earned a fifth-place finish. Meanwhile, Ryan Turner was back behind the wheel of his Kingpin Farms/Burger Barn No.91 and drove to a seventh-place finish. Finally, Jamie Turner was in the seat of his new-look No.11 Mudcat Entertainment Centre/Charlie Bee Honey/DSE Performance and claimed a 17th-place result.

Cory Turner drove from sixth to second in heat race which earned him a spot in the redraw, where he pulled the sixth starting spot for the main event. After a hard battle early with Holly Porter, Turner took the fifth spot for good on lap seven and never looked back.

“On Friday, I’d give us a B+ letter grade,” Turner said. “We were good, but we can definitely be a bit better. We came out of the box decent, but there’s room for improvement. We’re capable of winning some races this year and definitely getting on the podium.”

Ryan Turner came from seventh to fourth in his qualifying heat race which put him ninth in the starting lineup for the main event. When the green flag dropped, Ryan quickly jumped forward a spot before falling back mid-race to tenth. Ryan made the most of the final restart on lap 14 and drove forward to seventh over the final five laps.

“I was happy with it and the car’s in one piece,” Ryan explained. “We can definitely make the car better. I’m a little disappointed in myself because I didn’t go to the high side earlier in the night. The high side was the place to be even though it was a little rough. I’m excited for this year. I feel this Friday didn’t show everything we have and our full potential. Going forward, we’re definitely going to have a top-running car.”

Jamie Turner had a good opening night as well, battling for a top-three spot in his heat before finishing fifth and keeping the car pointed in the right direction throughout the Feature to earn a 16th-place result.

“It was the first night out in a new car and I hadn’t been in it before that,” Jamie said. “It feels like it has a lot of potential. We’re just going to try and get some good finishes. We have a lot of good support again this year, which really helps us out, so we’ll see what we can do. As I get the rust knocked off, I think the car will be a lot better.”

Both Cory and Ryan are excited to officially be back on the same team for 2019 with Burger Barn Racing with fellow 360 Sprint Car teammate Mike Thorne and Crate Sprint car teammate Dereck Lemyre. The big team allows for more information to be shared amongst the drivers.

“It definitely helps from a driver stand point,” Ryan said. “We talk amongst the three of us. We’re always talking setup and trying to make each other’s cars faster. That goes for anybody with the Burger Barn team. Having the knowledge between us definitely helps. Our goal is to have all of our cars up front.”

“It’s good because you get a few different sets of data. We have the exact same cars with very similar engines and the exact same components on them, so it definitely helps that way,” Cory added.

The team will be back in action on Friday, May 31 at Ohsweken Speedway when the event is broadcast live on MavTV Canada beginning at 9:00pm. The team will then be preparing a Crate Sprint Car for the Action Sprint Tour event at Humberstone Speedway’s Bob Deswiage Memorial on Sunday, June 2. The event is in honour of Team Turner Racing’s long time crew member Bob Deswiage, perhaps better known as “Bobby the Pilot”.
“Bob did a little bit of racing. He was a fixture at the race track, but didn’t race a lot himself,” Jamie said. “He did have one crazy story about how he went off turn three at Humberstone, through the ditch behind it, out through the field and came back in the pit gate with his street stock. He was pretty cool.”

Brady Chastney, another member of the Team Turner Racing crew, will pilot the No.2 car designed by Mayhew Graphics. For more information on the Bob Deswiage Memorial at Humberstone, visit www.humberstonespeedway.com.
