OHSWEKEN, ON – Renway Energy and Contrans presented Christmas in August and Autograph Night No. 3 on Friday, August 21 at Ohsweken Speedway. Josh Hansen, Liam Martin, Dave Bailey, and Tim DeBoer took A-Main victories.
Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars
Josh Hansen started on pole, with Nick Sheridan next to him, for the 360 Sprint Car A-Main. Hansen led the opening laps unchallenged as he quickly jetted in front of the pack. Hansen built a two-second lead over the field by Lap 10, while navigating lap traffic.
The latter part of the race saw flips, bringing out two red flags. Matt Farnham flipped on the backstretch on Lap 17, while Skyler Evans collided into the frontstretch wall, resulting in Kyle Phillips clipping the stricken driver and flipping on Lap 18. Hansen picked up where he left off as soon as racing resumed, going on to pick up his second victory of the season. Next to finish were Eric Gledhill in second, D.J. Christie third, Jacob Dykstra fourth, Sheridan fifth.
Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars
Keegan Baker and Connor Ross led the 28-car field to the green flag for the Crate Sprint Car A-Main. Baker led the opening laps, however, a caution shook up the whole race. Baker tried to defend his lead on the restart, but Liam Martin passed for the top spot with eight laps to go.
A late-race caution set up a six-lap dash to the finish, which saw Martin getting to the checkers first. Jesse Costa finished next, picking up valuable points as the season’s end is drawing near. Finishing out the top-five were Mack DeMan in third, Baker fourth, and Steve Murdock fifth.
Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks
The front row of the grid featured Kyle Andress and Brian General to begin the 20-lap Thunder Stock A-Main. General took the early lead until Lap 5, as he lost the spot to Tim Phalen on a restart due to two cautions happening.
Mike Thorne went for a spin, bringing out the caution on Lap 11. Ron Loggie took advantage of the restart becoming the third race leader. His lead was short lived as Phalen nabbed it back the next lap. Zack Bleich brought out the final caution with six laps to go. Dave Bailey was in prime position after the restart as he shot forward for the lead. Bailey went on to win the race after passing a staggering 17 drivers. Rounding out the top-five were Loggie in second, Ryan Beagle third, Phalen fourth, and Trevor DeBoer fifth.
Insta-Insulation Mini Stocks
Randy Alway started on pole, alongside Doug Erskine, to take the green flag for the 15-lap Mini Stock A-Main. Erskine’s pace was lightning quick as he dominated the first half of the race. Tim DeBoer was the only driver that could almost match that pace.
As the race continued, the momentum began to be on DeBoer’s side as he mounted a challenge for the lead. With six laps to go, Erskine battled DeBoer side-by-side but it was DeBoer who crossed the finish line first as Erskine settled for a close second. Finishing next were Conner Chambers in third, Jeff Elsliger fourth, and Alexander Klotz fifth.

About Ohsweken Speedway: Opened in 1996, Ohsweken Speedway is a motorsports complex and event centre featuring a 3/8 mile clay oval auto racing track and 1/6 mile clay oval Micro Sprint and Karting track. The facility is owned by the Styres family, and located in the village of Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada. Ohsweken’s weekly Friday Night Excitement racing program runs from May to September each year, featuring 360 Sprint Cars, Crate Sprint Cars, Thunder Stocks, and Mini Stocks, while the facility also hosts weekly Micro Sprint and Kart racing on Thursday nights.
