OHSWEKEN, ON – Ontario Agra and Stirling Lubricants presented the action on Friday, August 28 at Ohsweken Speedway. Skyler Evans, Cody McPherson, Jesse Costa, and Ken Hair took A-Main victories.
Southern Ontario Sprints
Dylan Westbrook started on pole, with Skyler Evans next to him, for the 360 Sprint Car A-Main. Evans took the early lead as the caution fell due to a four-car pile-up on lap two. Evans took the lead once again until the race stopped due to Kyle Phillips colliding into the backstretch wall with 20 laps to go.
Evans got the better of Westbrook on the restart as he pulled away in the lead. Westbrook tried everything in his arsenal to get around his teammate, but Evans proved victorious as he navigated lap traffic to his second ever win. Evans’ dominating performance saw him lead every lap and set the fastest lap time. Next to finish were Westbrook in second, D.J. Christie third, Josh Hansen fourth, and Cory Turner fifth.
RoC Sportsman Modifieds
Cody McPherson and Brad Rouse led the 26-car field to the green flag for the Sportsman Modifieds A-Main. Rouse led the opening laps with a healthy lead over McPherson and the rest of the field.
Rouse stood tall on multiple race restarts, leading each one, but when the final caution of the race fell with just six laps to go, this time McPherson got the upper hand and passed for the lead. Rouse then fell into the clutches of Nigel Pendykoski, falling into third-place in the closing laps. McPhearson picked up the victory with Pendykoski and McPherson joining him on the final two podium steps, respectively. Closing out the top-five were Derek Wagner in fourth and Matteo Panunte fifth.
Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars
The front row of the grid featured Johnny Miller and Larry Gledhill to begin the 20-lap Crate Sprint Car A-Main. A caution fell before the first lap could be completed. Gledhill took the lead on the restart with great race pace.
Lap traffic was at play as Jesse Costa made his move for the lead around Gledhill with eight laps remaining. Costa held off the field on two late-race restarts to secure another victory of the season. Steve Murdock claimed second after passing 12 competitors, while Gledhill claimed yet another podium. Rounding out the top-five were Liam Martin in fourth and Miller, picking up his first top-five finish of the season, in fifth.
Insta-Insulation Mini Stocks
Christopher French started on pole, alongside Chase Mitchell, to take the green flag for the 15-lap Mini Stock A-Main. Mitchell had the pace as he took the early lead. Nick Erskine kept Mitchell honest though as he was following closely behind.
Mitchell looked destined to win as the laps were ticking down, but a late-race caution extinguished his lead with just two laps remaining. Mitchell charged out of the restart, with Ken Hair close behind. Hair successfully performed a last-lap slide-job off turn four to win. Mitchell settled for a second-place finish, with Erskine taking the final podium spot. Next to finish were Craig Cole in fourth and Tim DeBoer fifth.

About Ohsweken Speedway: Opened in 1996, Ohsweken Speedway is a motorsports complex and event centre featuring a 3/8 mile clay oval auto racing track and 1/6 mile clay oval Micro Sprint and Karting track. The facility is owned by the Styres family, and located in the village of Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada. Ohsweken’s weekly Friday Night Excitement racing program runs from May to September each year, featuring 360 Sprint Cars, Crate Sprint Cars, Thunder Stocks, and Mini Stocks, while the facility also hosts weekly Micro Sprint and Kart racing on Thursday nights.
