CAISTOR CENTRE, Ont. – June 5, 2018 – All three Team Turner Racing cars were in action at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday, June 1 and the team kickstarted the new month with a pair of top-five finishes.

Cory Turner led the way for Team Turner Racing but fell just short of the win in his KT Tobacco/Silo Wireless No.97 Sprint Car as he powered to his third consecutive second-place finish. After starting third in the main event, a yellow flag with one lap to go setup an exciting finish. Turner threw all he could at leader Dylan Westbrook with slidejobs at both ends of the racetrack, but well just short of the victory.

“Before the restart I moved my wing back forward and I was just going to go anywhere he wasn’t,” Turner said. “He drove in the middle and I just drove off the wall and let it go. He crossed me over and I gave it back to him again and I just got a little bit too fired up and got in a little deep and he could drive back underneath me to the win. I just need to give him a little bit of a shorter slide to make him think.”

Behind Cory, Ryan Turner was making his first start in his new No.91 ride prepared by the Burger Barn Racing team. Ryan started the night with a second-place finish in his heat after leading several laps during his first race behind the wheel of his new car.

“When I rolled on the track you could tell there was definitely a cushion,” Ryan explained.” You could see everyone was kind of running up there. I’ve always liked running the high side, so I made sure I got the jump on the start and got myself to the top of two really quick and tried to take off. I felt really good the first four laps and then missed my marks and Westbrook got by me.”

Come Feature time, Ryan lined up seventh and spent most of the race engaged in a battle for a top-five spot with Chris Steele and Mack DeMan. Ryan ultimately prevailed with fifth-place finish to earn his first top-five of the season.

“We were really happy,” Ryan explained. “These guys are awesome and worked really hard on the car all night. I was getting used to the car a little and we were learning different things. We can definitely improve on fifth, but we’re really happy and the car’s in one piece.”

The transition to the new Burger Barn No.91 was relatively seamless for Ryan in his first night in the car. There were a few minor, yet noticeable differences he will adjust to in the coming weeks, he said.

“The engine has good power. It rolls really well through the corner and the steering’s a little quicker than my family car,” Ryan explained. “It’s just little things. We’ll get used to it. As a driver, I’ll calm down in the seat and drive it smoothly. As a crew, we’ll work on it and continue to make it faster.”

Ryan was quick once again to thank the Burger Barn Racing Team for the opportunity to drive their car and for the hard work they put in to prepare the car in time for Friday’s race.

“Gord and the Burger Barn team put in a lot of work,” Ryan said. “We were only there a couple of nights because everything happened so quickly. I’m grateful to team owner Jason Hill for giving me the opportunity.”

Jamie Turner was also in action in his Charlie Bee Honey/Mudcat Entertainment Centre No.11 machine. He drove to a 10th-place finish in his heat race before advancing from the 19th starting spot to a 15th-place finish in the main event.

“The track was a lot better and it was a lot more fun tonight,” Jamie said. “It looked like it was a pretty good race up front. If the crew keeps doing what they are, we’re going to be in a really good place in the next couple of weeks.”

After a slower than expected start to the season, Jamie and his team have made strides forward to improve their program and believe things are trending up after three weeks.

“I’ve had a slow start and we haven’t done a lot of racing. I think maybe the rust is on a little harder,” joked Jamie. “We’re working on the suspension. The car actually ran well tonight. The engine ran really well, so we’re happy with that. We just have to go home and do some more work.”

Catch Ryan, Cory and Jamie all in action next Friday, June 8 at Ohsweken on Rochester Knighthawks night. For additional information, visit www.ohswekenspeedway.ca.
