OHSWEKEN, ON – Slack Lumber and Window Werx presented Back-To-School Backpack Night and Contractors Night on Friday at Ohsweken Speedway, with Dylan Westbrook, Keegan Baker, Dave Bailey, and Rogan Monaghan taking A-Main victories.

Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprints

Liam Martin started on pole, with Josh Hansen next to him, for the 360 Sprints A-Main. Hansen had a great start, overtaking Martin for the lead on the opening lap. Hansen drove away from the field, easily leading the early laps. Dylan Westbrook hunted down Hansen and passed for the top spot on Lap 11. Once Westbrook got the taste of the lead, he wasn’t going to relinquish it.

A late-race restart didn’t phase Westbrook as he secured his seventh win of the season and 49th career 360 Sprint win at Ohsweken, scoring vital points going into the championship race next week. Next to finish were Ryan Turner in second, Nick Sheridan third, Tyeller Powless fourth, and Hansen fifth.

Strickland’s Crate Sprints

Steve Murdock and Jacob Dykstra brought the 29-car field to the green flag for the Crate Sprints A-Main. Dykstra took the lead before Ken Hamilton brought out a caution flag for a spin on lap one. The restart was successful and Dykstra maintained his lead over the field. Jesse Costa began to challenge for the position in the opening laps and Dykstra pushed too hard as he tried to defend, spinning and allowing Costa to swoop into the top spot. The resulting caution flag bred three more restarts until racing resumed.

In the wake of the caution flags, 2024 Open Micro Sprints champion Brennen Hagar flipped and brought out an immediate red flag. Dykstra tried to avoid the flip and ended up slamming into the backstretch wall, forcing him to retire from the race. Both drivers were unharmed. The restart became a six-lap dash to the finish, where Keegan Baker got the better of Costa to claim his first Crate Sprint win at Ohsweken. Costa settled for a second-place finish, while the top-five was rounded out by Austin Roes in third, Holly Porter fourth, and Lance Erskine fifth.

Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks

The front row of the grid featured Dylan Peckham and Kyle Andress to begin the Thunder Stock A-Main. Tim Phalen took control of the race at the start, leading the opening lap and holding off a very hungry Zack Bleich. Dave Bailey made a beeline to the front and overtook Phalen by Lap 10, after starting 18th on the grid.

Driving a backup car after last week’s crash, Ryan Beagle entered into the picture and kept Bailey honest. Bailey stayed ahead to pick up the win, making his points deficit even smaller going into the championship race next week. Beagle’s second-place finish limited the damage and allowed him to stay 12 points ahead of Bailey. Next to finish were Robert Hoskins in third, Keith Dale fourth, and Tim Phalen fifth.

Insta-Insulation Mini Stocks

Rogan Monaghan claimed Mini Stock win number one at Ohsweken Speedway on August 29th. CREDIT: Dale Calnan/imagefactormedia.com

Mike Sarantakos started on pole, alongside Bill Pearsall, to take the green flag for the Mini Stock A-Main. Pearsall pounced on the lead, claiming it for himself in the opening laps. Jeff Elsliger was able to pry away the top spot from Pearsall on lap seven.

Elsliger checked out after he got the lead, sailing away from the field to take the checkered flag in first. But Elsliger was subsequently disqualified for a technical violation, and this turn of events gave Rogan Monaghan his first Mini Stock win. The top-five was rounded out by Gillian Hils in second, Pearsall third, Tristan DaSilva fourth, from row 12, and Alex Riley fifth.
