OHSWEKEN, ON – The 21st edition of Nationals Week brought plenty of action to Ohsweken Speedway. Nick Sheridan, Jesse Costa, Ryan Beagle, and Jeff Elsliger took crown jewel wins, while three new inductees were announced for the Wall of Fame.

Thursday Night

Middleport Mechanical presented the second running of the Northern Thunder Stock Nationals and the inaugural running of the Northern Mini Stock Nationals on Thursday; Ryan Beagle took the win for the Thunder Stocks, and Jeff Elsliger won in the Mini Stock division.

Dave Bailey and Ryan Beagle earned front row starting positions for the 35-lap Northern Thunder Stock Nationals A-Main. Bailey set the pace as he led the opening lap over defending champion Beagle. Trevor Monaghan spun on lap three, bringing out the first of several caution flags. Bailey held on to his lead after the restarts, but another caution came out that extinguished his advantage. Beagle used this opportunity to take away the top spot from Bailey, becoming the second leader of the race on lap 17.

Despite three more cautions, Beagle proved to be unshakable as he went on to win his second Northern Thunder Stock Nationals Championship by over three seconds, keeping him the sole driver to win the crown jewel event. Rounding out the top-ten were Bailey in second, Brock Gregory third, Kyle Wert fourth, Rob Murray fifth, Ryan Dinning sixth, Kyle Pelrine seventh, Trevor DeBoer eighth, Gofast Teeple ninth, and Spencer Smolders tenth. Bailey set a new time trial track record for Thunder Stocks earlier in the evening, with a lap of 18.841 seconds.

Ken Hair and Jeff Elsliger earned front row starting positions for the 35-lap Northern Mini Stock Nationals A-Main. Hair led the first lap, before a caution flag was shown due to Rogan Monaghan coming to a stop on the track. Hair continued to lead after the restart and looked like a favourite to win after surviving another restart on Lap 11. Gillian Hils sized up a pass for the top spot on lap 15, becoming the second driver to lead the race.

Jason Tolton suffered an untimely front end failure, which brought out the caution flag again. This allowed Elsliger to pounce on the restart, becoming the third leader. A late-race caution came out, setting up a dash to the finish, with Hils and Elsliger racing door-to-door for the remaining laps. The race came down to a photo finish, as Elsliger eked out a win over Hils by just 0.03 seconds.

Elsliger etched his name into the Ohsweken Speedway history books as the very first Northern Mini Stock Nationals champion. Crossing the finish line next after runner-up Hils were 2025 Mini Stock Champion Tim DeBoer in third, Alex Riley fourth, Wayde Thorne fifth, Tristan DaSilva sixth, Hair seventh, Monaghan eighth, Spencer Riddell ninth, and John Lubeck tenth. Hils was fastest in time trials, with a lap of 21.298 seconds.

Friday Night

Nitro 54 Variety, Sit ‘N’ Bull Tires, and Arrow Express presented the fourth running of the Northern Crate Nationals on Friday; Jesse Costa took the $5,000 A-Main win for the Crate Sprint Cars, while Jordan Poirier, DJ Christie, Brock Gregory, and Rogan Monaghan also took wins in their respective divisions.

Eric Gledhill earned the pole position, with Jesse Costa next to him, for the 35-lap Northern Crate Nationals A-Main. Gledhill managed to lead the opening lap before Costa made his pass for the position on lap two. Costa set sail and quickly drove away from the rest of the field, with a 2.2-second lead over Gledhill by lap eight. Meanwhile, visiting drivers Andrew Hennessy and Josh Verne Jr battled it out for the final podium spot.

Lap 10 saw Costa navigating through heavy traffic with magnificent precision, maintaining his gap over teammate Gledhill. The race ran caution-free with drivers using every inch of the slick surface, showcasing the phenomenal talent of the field. Costa went on to win in dominant fashion, as he put 21 drivers at least one lap down and finished more than seven seconds ahead of runner-up Gledhill.

Hennessy found himself in the final podium position after his battle with Verne. Rounding out the top-ten were Verne in fourth, Jacob Dykstra fifth, Lucas Smith sixth, Bruno Richard seventh, Austin Roes eighth, Ryan Fraser ninth, and Cameron Thomson tenth. Holly Porter was fastest in time trials, with a lap of 14.808 seconds. Costa’s time of 10:20.582 established a 35-lap track record for Crate Sprint Cars.

360 Sprint Car NSCN Twin 15’s

Davie Franek and Jordan Poirier brought the field to the green flag for the first of the Twin 15’s for the 360 Sprint Cars. Franek enjoyed his early lead until Poirier passed him on lap three. Alex Therrien also followed through the open door, relegating Franek to third on the same lap. Poirier and Therrien battled between traffic all the way to the finish but it was Poirier who crossed the line first, besting his fellow Quebecer. The victory was Poirier’s first at Ohsweken. Therrien finished a close second, with Darren Dryden in third. The rest of the top-five were Franek in fourth and Baily Heard fifth.

The second of the Twin 15’s had DJ Christie and Liam Martin on the front row. Christie led the opening lap over Martin with a healthy advantage. With seven laps to go, Christie could be found slicing through traffic like a surgeon. Christie proved to be untouchable as he led every lap to claim his first 360 Sprint Car victory at Ohsweken. Next to finish were Martin in second, Skyler Evans third, Nick Sheridan fourth, and Josh Hansen fifth.

The wins guaranteed Poirier and Christie top-ten starting positions in Saturday’s $30,000-to-win Northern Sprint Car Nationals A-Main.

Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks

Brock Gregory started on pole, alongside Kyle Wert, to take the green flag for the 20-lap Thunder Stock A-Main. Gregory led the opening two laps before 2025 Thunder Stock champ Ryan Beagle claimed the lead for himself on lap three. Robbie General brought out the caution when he spun in turn two, on lap five. This caution flag bunched the field and bred three more cautions in a span of eight laps. This was an advantage to Gregory, as each restart was like a practice session on how to get around Beagle, the two-time Northern Thunder Stock Nationals winner.

With knowledge gained, Gregory sailed past Beagle for the lead with six laps to go. Beagle tried to regain the spot, but his efforts proved futile as Gregory went on to win the race, becoming just the third different driver to win a Thunder Stock A-Main this year following the dominant seasons of Beagle and Dave Bailey. Completing the top-five were Wert in third, Bailey fourth, and Mike Klazinga fifth.

The front row of the grid featured Mason Anderson and Rogan Monaghan to begin the 15-lap Mini Stock A-Main. Monaghan led the first five laps with ease until debris brought out the caution flag. Brian Wilson Jr. got the better of Monaghan on the restart, but Monaghan quickly bounced back to regain the lead on the next lap.

Monaghan went on to win the race on his own merit, proving to everyone that he could score the victory on the track; his first win, earlier in the season, came after another driver’s disqualification. Wilson had to settle for second after having a quick taste of the top spot, with Alex Riley claiming the final podium step. Rounding out the top-five were Wayde Thorne in fourth and Jeremy Cooper fifth.

Saturday Night

Nitro 54, Sit ‘N’ Bull Tires, and Arrow Express presented the 21st running of the Northern Sprint Car Nationals on Saturday; Nick Sheridan took the $30,000 A-Main win for the 360 Sprint Cars, while Josh Verne Jr won in the Crate Sprint division.

This year’s Ohsweken Speedway 360 champion Dylan Westbrook and Texas visitor Sam Hafertepe Jr. earned front row starting positions for the 35-lap Northern Sprint Car Nationals 360 Sprint Car A-Main. Westbrook took the early lead in the opening laps before Eric Gledhill and Glenn Styres suffered spins on lap three to bring out the only caution flag of the race. Westbrook managed the restart with ease as he set a torrid pace, catching slower traffic by lap nine, with a 1.9-second lead over Matt Farnham.

Nick Sheridan eventually tracked down and passed Farnham for second, and used the outside line to close in on Westbrook as the laps ticked down. With time running out, Sheridan made his pass for the lead and eventual win with just five laps to go. Westbrook then fell into the clutches of eighth row starter Ryan Turner, who was on the hunt for a fourth Nationals win. It was Sheridan’s night though, as he claimed the highly-coveted $30,000 crown jewel victory by a margin of 1.9 seconds.

Turner and Westbrook claimed the final two podium positions, respectively. Finishing next were DJ Christie in fourth, Farnham fifth, Hafertepe sixth, Josh Hansen seventh, Jordan Thomas eighth, Todd Hoddick ninth, and Darren Dryden tenth. Sheridan set a new event record in time trials earlier in the evening, with a lap of 13.283 seconds.

Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars

It was a champion front row lockout as current champion Jacob Dykstra and 2024 title winner Brett Stratford brought the field to the green flag for the 20-lap Crate Sprint Car A-Main. Dykstra set the pace, leading Stratford for the opening laps. Adam Turner brought out the first caution on lap six, as he came to a stop on the front stretch. The restart gave Stratford a shot of getting ahead of the hard-defending Dykstra, but to no avail.

With the end of the race approaching, Dykstra and Stratford banged wheels several times. With one lap to go, Stratford made a daring attempt to pass Dykstra on the exit of turn two. The attempt proved to be futile, as Stratford drove up and over Dykstra, launching himself into the air and rolling over. Dykstra spun as a result of the contact, but kept going until the red flag appeared. Stratford’s car was too heavily damaged to continue, while officials moved Dykstra to the rear of the field as an involved car. Both drivers were unharmed, but furious with each other.

A green-white-checkered finish determined the winner when the race restarted, with Steve Murdock leading the field to the green. Josh Verne Jr., comfortably running in the top-five throughout the race, got a better launch over Murdock for the top spot. Verne drove through the last four turns to pick up his first victory at Ohsweken after a five-hour trip from upstate New York. Murdock finished second, with Quebec racer Bruno Richard finding the final podium position. Holly Porter finished fourth, while visitor Andrew Hennessy rounded out the top-five.

Ohsweken Speedway Wall of Fame

The Ohsweken Speedway Wall of Fame committee announced the 2025 class of inductees. Glenn Styres, Mike Evers, and Mike Thorne will be honoured as Wall of Fame Inductees at the Night of Champions banquet on Friday, November 21.

Styres is already a Wall of Fame inductee as owner and builder of Ohsweken Speedway, along with the Styres family, but his accomplishments behind the steering wheel make him a great choice to be inducted as a driver too. His 27 wins in 360 Sprint Car competition rank him second all-time by a very healthy margin, and he has five track championships on his resume as well.

Evers has been a constant supporter of Ohsweken’s Mini Stock division for decades. He’s competed in hundreds of races in his familiar blue-and-yellow No. 265 machine. Mike is one of a select group of drivers with at least 10 Mini Stock wins at Ohsweken.

Thorne has competed in a number of divisions at Ohsweken over the years, but he is most well-known for his Thunder Stock exploits. Consecutive track championships in 2011 and 2012 and feature wins in both Thunder Stocks and Crate Sprint Cars make Thorne an easy choice for induction.

More information about the Night of Champions banquet will be released in the coming weeks. Please visit www.ohswekenspeedway.ca for more information.

About the Wall of Fame: The Ohsweken Speedway Wall of Fame is dedicated to celebrating the achievements and contributions of those who have helped Ohsweken Speedway become a premiere racing facility and inspired generations to come. Selections are made annually by the Wall of Fame committee, with potential honourees including (but not limited to) drivers, car owners, manufacturers, car builders, mechanics, sponsors, promoters, officials, sanctioning organizations, and media members.

The community is invited to submit nominations for induction to the Wall of Fame, and all nominations are given due consideration. The number of inductees in any given year shall be at the discretion of the Wall of Fame committee. The official induction ceremony will be held at the Night of Champions banquet. All nominations for the 2026 Wall of Fame class must be submitted by May 1, 2026. To nominate a candidate for consideration, please contact ohswekenspeedwaymedia@gmail.com.
