OHSWEKEN, ON – It’s already time for Mid-Season Championship Night at Ohsweken Speedway, as Wiseco Piston and Evers Financial present this week’s round of Friday Night Thunder. The Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, Lighthouse Tattoos Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Pierced Parts Bombers will all be part of Friday Night Thunder this week, along with a visit by the Vintage Cars.
CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING SPRINT CARS: Yet another first-time Sprint Car winner visited the Engine Pro Racing Winner’s Circle last Friday when Grimsby’s Travis Cunningham took the checkered flag. Ohsweken’s own Glenn Styres continues to lead the championship standings, however, and has a 20 point lead over Fenwick driver Chris Steele heading into this week’s event. Tom Huppunen – another Fenwick driver – is third in the standings, just 2 points behind Steele, while Cunningham is now fourth, and Port Colborne’s Dave Dykstra rounds out the top five.
Thedford’s Shane Ross scored a runner-up finish last Friday, and leads the Rookie of the Year standings, with young Conor Mahoney of Waterdown next in line. Both drivers are within the top 17 in the overall championship standings heading into this week’s race.
LIGHTHOUSE TATTOOS THUNDER STOCKS: The Thunder Stock championship standings were shaken up last Friday night when Brad Herron and Mike Thorne were caught up in a crash on the opening lap of the feature. Cambridge driver Wyatt Van Wart benefited from their misfortune, and extended his points lead to 18 over Port Robinson’s Devin Habiuk. Waterford driver Herron is now third in the standings, followed by Wainfleet’s Jack Myers – a first-time feature winner last Friday – and Caledonia’s Lee Winger.
Brantford driver Jake Brown leads the way in the Rookie of the Year standings, and sits eighth overall in the championship standings, with Caistor Centre’s Ryan Turner second in the Rookie chase, and thirteenth overall.
HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS: Mike Evers recovered from a crash two weeks ago and drove through the field to a fifth place finish last Friday night, and kept his points lead in the process. Evers is now 13 points clear of Hamilton driver Jason Lungaro. Dundas driver Karl Sault is third, just 4 points behind Lungaro, followed by a fourth place tie between the Burlington-based team of Mark Czuba and Mike Taylor, and Ohsweken driver Steve Hess.
Jarvis driver Dale Gyokery leads the Rookie of the Year standings, with Sarah Rutherford of Dundas next in line in those standings. Both drivers are within the top 20 in the overall championship standings.
PIERCED PARTS BOMBERS: Max Chechalk scored his third win of the season last Friday in the Bomber feature, and now leads the standings by 18 points over the team of Jesse McDonald and Craig Dowd. Carlisle’s Davey Boughton is third, followed by Hagersville driver Dusty DeBoer, and Hamilton’s Jeremy May.
