GRAND PRAIRIE, ALBERTA – 2012 has been a very busy year for Team Silco and their seven-year-old racer Benjamin Silliker. With their last event of the year now over, The Silliker family will take a much needed break in their schedule before getting back at it in 2013.
Over the past couple months, Benjamin has been racing his Locked n Loaded QRC Factory Kart in the Red Bluff Outlaw Series in California. Virtually every weekend since their season ended at home, Silliker has traveled from Alberta to California to race the Red Bluff Winter Series. They have had some success, qualifying for seven of the eight A-main events, and winning three trophy dash events.
This past week, Benjamin qualified sixth overall, finished second in his heat race, and started fifth in the A-main. He was running third before being caught up in a wreck, and although he bruised some ribs in the incident, be continued on and fought back to a ninth place finish. He also won the trophy dash for the second consecutive week.
To help put Benjamin’s schedule into perspective for 2012, he raced in 78 events, posting five wins, 55 top five finishes and 72 top ten results. He raced in three different types of cars, raced on both dirt and asphalt on 17 different tracks throughout Canada and the United States. He won two track championships and currently holds five Rookie of the Year awards in various divisions. Benjamin raced 18 times in 2011 (9 wins), and just 14 times in his first year in 2010 (3 wins).
