CAISTOR CENTRE, Ont. (June 17, 2019) – Team Turner Racing recorded one of their best weekend’s in team history and best this season with all three drivers finishing in the top-10 during both nights of their doubleheader weekend while Cory Turner led the way with a pair of victories. Ryan Turner had a podium and 10th-place finish while Jamie Turner claimed a pair of ninth-place results.

“For us, we had a good weekend,” Jamie said. “The car was much more comfortable. To see Cory run like he did, was really good.”

“That’s the first time I’ve ever won back-to-back nights in the same weekend in any form of racing, so that was really cool. We had a little bit of luck on our side,” Cory explained.

On Friday night, Cory claimed a heat race win before scoring the Feature victory, his first for the Burger Barn Racing team and first for TTR this year.

“Any time you can get a win for the team is great,” Cory said. “Everybody gets a little more fired up and guys are a little more keen. It’s just as much work when you’re running 15th as when you’re winning, so everybody’s spirits are raised when you can have some success.”

Ryan had a tough start to his night when an early battle his heat shuffled him back before racing to a fifth-place finish. Then, in the Feature, he pitted during a lap 11 red flag to try and improve the handling of his car. Over the final nine laps, he raced from the back to a 10th-place result.

“It just felt like the setup we put in it, the car wasn’t steering down on the left for me and I couldn’t get through the corners at all because it was way too tight,” Ryan explained. ”During the red, we took it in and the crew did an awesome job. The car was awesome when we got back out there and I feel like we had a top-five car, but we just had too many cars to pass and not enough laps.”

Jamie had his best outing of the season at Ohsweken and drove from 13th to a ninth-place result to earn his first top-10 of the season.

“It was good to run well (at Ohsweken) because I’ve really been struggling there,” Jamie commented. “The car just felt a lot better than it has been. I knew I had a lot more corner speed and it just felt way more comfortable.”

On the heels of a successful night at Ohsweken, the team travelled east to Brighton on Saturday, June 15 for the Southern Ontario Sprints season opener. Both Cory and Ryan recorded runner-up finishes in their heats to qualify for the re-draw and then lined-up second and fourth, respectively, for the main event.

The end result was a smooth race where Cory claimed the win and Ryan scored a third-place result to put two cars on the podium. Jamie was ninth once again in another strong showing. In victory lane, Cory dedicated the win to crew member Bob Deswiage, who passed away suddenly over the off-season.

“Bob was our truck driver and the first time he ever drove our truck was when I got my first win at Brighton four years ago,” Cory said. “He passed away over the off-season which was sudden and we didn’t really see it coming. He absolutely loved going to Brighton. Any road trip, he was the first guy at the shop and the last guy to leave when we got home. It meant a lot to me to get one for him there.”

“Bobby was a huge part of our team, Ryan added. “He was there every week helping us out and I don’t think he missed a race last year. It’s a big loss for our program. He was always making people smile with his jokes and you don’t forget that. It was good that Cory got the win for him.”
“It was really nice that one of the boys won on Saturday night,” Jamie added. “We knew Bobby loved Brighton so much, so I know both of the boys were trying really hard to get that first one at Brighton and give a shout out for Bobby.”

The team is planning for another doubleheader this weekend, beginning Friday night at Ohsweken on June 21 with a race that will air live on MavTV Canada. They’ll then visit Merrittville Speeway on Saturday, June 22 for round two of the Southern Ontario Sprints schedule. After a bit of a roller coaster this past week, Ryan Turner has a plan in place for the upcoming doubleheader.

“I have to do what Bob says. I have to pull up my socks.”
