CAISTOR CENTRE, ON – Jamie Turner and sons Cory and Ryan had a busy weekend, with birthday parties, corn roasts, and sponsor appearances all on the schedule, plus racing at three different speedways.
Now they’re getting ready for another hectic weekend, but doing so with heavy hearts. A very important member of the racing community and great person was lost this week when Humberstone Speedway owner Pete Cosco passed away suddenly. The Turners would like to send their condolences to Pete’s family and friends.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 22 – OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY: Jamie and Cory both gained one spot in their heat race on Friday night at Ohsweken Speedway, as Jamie started sixth and finished fifth, and Cory started seventh and finished sixth. They both gained positions in the feature race as well.
“(Jamie) started 13th and brought the car home in eighth…A pretty decent run on his 54th birthday!” Cory said. “I started 17th and finished ninth. The car was really good early down on the bottom of the race track, but the first caution flag broke my momentum. My crew worked extremely hard this week to get the #19 back in action, so this run is a huge feather in their caps.”
Jamie is eighth in the Ohsweken championship standings, while Cory is 10th and leads the Rookie of the Year standings.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 23 – MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY: Ryan started fourth in his heat race on Saturday night at Merrittville Speedway, but slipped to fifth at the finish, and missed the redraw for feature starting spots by one position. He started 13th in the feature race as a result, and held that position all the way through to the checkered flag.
Ryan is currently 10th in the Merrittville championship standings with just one week left on the schedule there.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 24 – HUMBERSTONE SPEEDWAY: Ryan made sure he got into the redraw on Sunday night at Humberstone Speedway by driving from sixth to third in his heat race. He started sixth in the feature and brought his #91 home in seventh place on a tacky and fast racing surface.
Ryan is seventh in the Humberstone championship standings with just two points races left on the schedule.
WHAT’S NEXT?: Cory and Jamie will be back at Ohsweken Speedway for another round of 360 Sprint Car racing on Friday, August 29 before heading for the Southern Ontario Sprints Labour Day Classic events at Brighton Speedway on Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31.
Ryan will take his DIRTcar Sportsman Modified to Merrittville Speedway on Saturday, August 30 for their season points finale, followed by a visit to Humberstone Speedway on Sunday, August 31 for the sixth race in the Tri-Track Sportsman Series.
