MILLGROVE, Ontario (May 05, 2022)— After a great kick-off to the 50th season of racing at Flamboro Speedway, the action is only set to get more intense this Saturday night. The T.Q. Can-Am Midgets will be invading the Hamilton-based oval, set to kick off their year in style.
While the track is tough for any driver to master, it was kind to the young stars of the series last year with sophomore Brody Rickwood and Cory Whittam each coming home with the checkered flag. Both drivers utilized a strong starting spot to break out to an early advantage, cruising away for the victory.
The tight corners make qualifying very important in ensuring you have a strong starting spot, which means the heats will be action-packed as drivers go to make moves. Though with being their first event of the year, you may get surprises mixed in as new faces try to rise to the top.
Certainly last year’s pair of winners are favourited to repeat, but you cannot overlook Jeff Blackburn or Daniel Hawn. Blackburn has been fast at every single track on the schedule, as shown through with a victory to close 2021 at Sunset Speedway en route to being crowned series champion. Though on his heels was Daniel Hawn, who has proven in his short tenure you cannot question his work ethic. The second-generation racer is always in the shop, trying to tweak his car and find just a couple more thousandths of a second.
His teammates Darren McLennan and James Stanley need to be considered in the conversation, too. Stanley knows his way to victory lane behind the wheel of a Pro Sprint and showed progress through his limited 2021 campaign. McLennan, while, he’s been around the series long enough that he knows what he’s doing everywhere. It’s just a matter of getting the car to do what he needs when he unloads on Saturday night.
There’s also Jody Bound, who makes the jump up to the division from the Outlaw Midgets. The familiar No. 5 knew how to get to victory lane there, having done so numerous times in dominating fashion with championships to show for it.
Other drivers include Craig Pitchell, David Miller, Jaden Riddell, Jamie Kay, Mike Coleman, Bob Bailey, Dominique Smith, David Mathers, Cassidy March, and Mike Westwood.
The next event at Flamboro Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, May 7, with the Qwick Wick T.Q. Can-Am Midgets season opener headlining the show. The night will also include the Pro Late Models, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Pure Stocks. The gates open at 5pm, with racing starting at 6:30pm.
