This is only my opinion but why is IndyCar messing around with temporary street courses in the Toronto area when there is a perfectly fine permanent facility only fifty miles east of Toronto. Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (it will ALWAYS be Mosport for me!!) has hosted Formula One, Can-Am, NASCAR Trucks, IMSA and others over the years and it would be perfect for an IndyCar race.
The 2027 NASCAR schedule has been getting released one track at a time, not as a complete document. Hopefully the official full deal will come out soon.
More bad news for IHRA owner Darryl Cuttell. NASCAR will not return to his Rockingham Raceway next year after two years hosting both the Craftsman Truck Series and the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Of course, no reason was given but one can read between the lines.

CANADIAN TIRE MOTORSPORT PARK: Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s Labour Day Weekend Sprints will bring the curtain down on the facility’s 65th anniversary major event season with three days of exciting racing action, September 4-6.
Headlining the holiday weekend are the NASCAR Canada Series and the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli, creating one of the most anticipated road racing events of the year. Fans will also enjoy racing featuring Radical Cup Canada, Formula Regional Americas, Formula 4 U.S. and Challenge Canada competitors.
Beyond the on-track excitement, spectators can explore the CTMP Marketplace, food vendors, beer garden and the Canadian Tire Fun Zone, while Saturday evening features live music followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Full paddock access and complimentary fan shuttles give fans an up-close look at the teams, drivers and race cars.
Advance tickets are available until September 2, with Weekend Super Tickets priced at $70 and Sunday race-day tickets at $40. Children 16 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult. It has been great to read lately that NASCAR Cup races have been sold out as well as IndyCar races. Years ago, that was the case… all events sold out. But then, live television broadcasts starting cutting into the crowds. I recall when Daytona tore down the ‘Superstretch’ seating on the back stretch, and then Charlotte did the same thing. Now the fans are back. The future looks great.
Was great to see it announced that the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will be returning to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) next Labour Day! This was always an interesting and packed event and it was a shame that it went away in the first place. Bravo to all on bringing it back!
As we hear about that dreaded word ‘tariffs’ on an almost daily basis it is refreshing to see that those very tariffs have not been applied to one great Canadian export. And that would be the stock car drivers who have gone south and are doing VERY well. Those drivers would be Kyle Steckly, Chase Pinsonneault and the Lapcevich brothers. Well done, gentlemen, well done.

FLAMBORO SPEEDWAY: Saturday, August 22 is Norheat Treatment Night featuring the Ontario Sportsman Series at Flamboro Speedway. The OSS main event is the Precision Edge 100 presented by KAM Wire EDM. The Can-Am Midgets, Ontario Pro Challenge, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks and Kids Bike Races will also be on-track. NASCAR Cup Series – Ryan Blaney (Ford) picked up the pole for Saturday night’s race at Richmond Raceway over Chase Briscoe (Toyota) and Josh Berry (Ford). 37 Cars, 17 Chevs, 11 Fords and 9 Toyotas. Emulating the truck race from earlier in the day the first stage went caution free and Blaney got the stage win. On lap 124 Zane Smith spun at the back of the pack and hit the wall. Caution. Joey Logano won Stage 2. On lap 284 Carson Hocevar rolled to a stop in 3. Yellow.
Logano picked up the win over Briscoe and Austin Cindric.
In the points Hamlin leads Blaney by 115 and Ty Gibbs by 127.

NASCAR Craftsman Trucks – It appears that road race ace Shane van Gisbergen (Chev) has really developed his oval skills by grabbing the pole for the race Friday night at Richmond Raceway. Kaden Honeycutt (Toyota) qualified second with Chandler Smith (Ford) third. Canadians Stewart Friesen and Cole Butcher qualified 9th and 25th. 36 trucks including 14 Chevs, 9 Fords, 8 Toyotas and 5 Rams. Honeycutt, who got around SVG on lap 3, took the caution-free Stage 1. Honeycutt continued his domination winning the clean and green Stage 2. He has now led 138 of the 140 laps. On lap 216 Friesen got into the wall in 2 for the first race caution.
At the flag it was Honeycutt over Corey Heim and Christian Eckes. Butcher finished 22nd while Friesen ended up 36th. Layne Riggs continues to lead the points by 61 over Honeycutt and by 150 over Smith. Friesen sits 11th and Butcher is 19th.

IndyCar – It appeared Friday that a certain amount of chaos and confusion had settled in for the new race course in Markham. It seems that the circuit did not yet meet the required standards. Much work ensued and the track was ready for Saturday’s events. Oh, and about that hairpin!!! Instant excitement!! Wow.
Louis Foster won the inaugural pole on the Markham circuit ahead of Christian Lundgaard and Scott McLaughlin. Points leader Alex Palou started a shocking 12th, Will Power started 24th and Josef Newgarden was dead last in qualifying. Tough but fun track!!
Everything went well until lap 15 (of 90) when Mick Schumacher got into the wall bringing out the yellow flag. The laundry came back out on lap 33 when a traffic jam occurred in the hairpin. Right after the restart the yellow came back out but I’m not sure why as it was not explained. We saw the damaged strut on Scott Dixon’s car but nothing else. Just before halfway mark pole sitter Foster stuffed it hard into the wall. Yellow.
At the halfway mark it was Romain Grosjean over Marcus Ericsson and Will Power (who had started 24th!!). Another yellow came out on lap 53 when Kyle Kirkwood hit the inside wall and then the outside wall. With nine laps to go they started playing ‘bumper cars’ out there but no yellows. And Ericsson moved from 3rd to the lead with 4 to go. Good racing for sure.
At the flag it was Ericsson over Grosjean and Power. Palou was 4th.
In the points Palou leads Kirkwood by 133 and David Malukas by 137.

CASC-OR: The Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs – Ontario Region sanctions the RaceOntario Championships, a series of race events run from April through October at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Shannonville Motorsports Park, and Calabogie Motorsport Park. CASC-OR is a group of nearly thirty motorsport enthusiast clubs with two thousand members within Ontario. The organization sets rules and regulations for four divisions, Road Racing, Time Attack, Autoslalom and Ice Racing, and administers & promotes provincial championships in each. NASCAR Canada Series – Friday’s scheduled qualifying session for the race was delayed until Saturday morning, part of the IndyCar weekend in Markham. 23 cars timed and, unsurprisingly, Marc-Antoine Camirand won the pole over Tyler Gonzalez and L.P. Dumoulin.
On the first lap, Gonzalez appeared to get into the wall and cut down a tire. Yellow.
The caution came back out on lap 9 for an unspecified ‘medical emergency’. It allowed the track crew to retrieve some of the various bits of debris spread around the circuit!! BTW – Race Center was not active again for this race. Thankfully we had Race Monitor.
At the halfway mark it was Camirand over Dumoulin and Kevin Lacroix. On lap 19 Sam Fellows overcooked corner entry and got into the wall flattening a tire. He kept going and backed in behind the wall. On the next lap, Simon Charbonneau duplicated Fellows’ mistake, hitting the wall in the same spot and continuing on. On lap 30 Jonathan Woolridge backed into the tire wall to bring out another yellow. Green/white/checker!!
The yellow came back out when Woolridge stopped on track. Another green/white/checker.
At the flag, three laps over the scheduled distance, it was Camirand over Andrew Ranger and Dumoulin. Dumoulin set fast time with a 1:33.595. Time of the race – 1:18:50.
In the points Camirand leads Dumoulin by 83 and Lacroix by 110.

Delaware Speedway – It was quite funny to watch the practice times for the V8 Stocks. No less than 11 cars went well under the 21.10 second breakout point for the class including Will Quarrie who ran an 18.915. Doug Stewart won Heat 1 while Randy Martin won Heat 2. Nic Ramsay won the feature over Jordan Morris and Martin.
In the Bone Stocks Mark Hutchinson won Heat 1, Charlie Verhoeven won Heat 2 and Michael Verberne won Heat 3. Verberne nosed out Paul Fothergill at the stripe to win the feature. (Third-place finisher to be verified.)
The Modifieds ran two features to make up for one lost earlier in the year. Marshall Schrenk won the heat race and then came back and won Feature #1 over Jay Cox and Wally Wilson. The second feature went to Cox ahead of Schrenk and Steve McCaw.
