Here’s a look at the ride multi-time Thunder Car/Super Stock champion ‘Flyin’ Frank Davey will compete with in throughout 2012. After more than a decade of experience behind the wheel of his trademark Camaro, Davey will make the jump to Sunset Speedway’s headline Limited Late Model division, for a run at the 2012 Rookie of the Year.
Davey purchased a former Stompin’ Tom Motorsports chassis at the conclusion of the 2011 season. The River Drive Park, ON veteran’s full-time effort will enjoy support from Fleet Brake Ontario, Barney’s Auto Electric, HWY 400 Transmission, Green Steel Roofing and Auto Trim Design of Barrie. Marketing partnerships are still available. Davey will compete alongside fellow Limited Late Model rookies John Lockhart and Thane Woodside when the season kicks off May 5th.

KEITH MCLEOD: 2008 Barrie Speedway Limited Late Model champion Keith McLeod has sent along photos of his newly acquired hotrod, as he readies his return to competition after taking hiatus through the 2011 season. McLeod’s chassis was last piloted by fellow Barrie competitor Dwayne Baker at the conclusion of the 2009 campaign, and has undergone a complete rebuild for McLeod’s 2012 championship run.
The Barrie, ON veteran will carry sponsorship from Industrial Commutator Ltd., with product support from Paul’s Auto Body. McLeod will look to become the first driver to capture a second Barrie Speedway championship since the 1/3 mile oval adopted NASCAR Whelen All American series sanctioning in 2007. McLeod will be in action alongside fellow track champions Baker, Gord Shepherd, Al Inglis and Ron Quesnelle when the season starts up May 5th. The team can be followed all season long with their new Facebook group ‘Keith McLeod – Racesports’.

GLENN STYRES: Check out Ohsweken Speedway promoter slash Sprint Car frontrunner Glenn Styres new helmet. The ‘Rocky’ design was inspired by Styres evening with Sylvester Stallone over the off-season. This takes ‘cool’ to a whole new level, even for a guy with a speedway in his backyard.

FLAMBORO SPEEDWAY’s Late Model division will kick their 2012 season into gear this Saturday night. Racing gets underway at 6:00pm with the pit gates swinging open at 5:00pm. The event will set the stage of Jason Shaw’s title defense, as he does battle with fellow title contenders Steve Laking, Jeff Stewart and Paul Howse. The season opener will also feature the anticipated Late Model debut of lauded second-generation star Dale Shaw (above), as the 17-year old begins his bid for the division’s Rookie of the Year title.

STEVE LAKING: In addition to making a run at the Flamboro Speedway track championship, Guelph, ON’s Steve Laking has confirmed he has added his name to the growing list of established competitors poised to run Sunset Speedway’s McColl Racing Enterprise Pro Series. The 4-race Mini-series will be comprised of a pair of Sunday events (May 27th & June 17th) and a pair of Wednesday events (July 11th & August 15th).
Laking will join Pro Late Model standouts including 2011 Delaware Speedway champion Andrew Gresel, Varney Motor Speedway promoter Kent Nuhn and 2011 Grisdale Triple Crown champion David Elliott, as well as Limited Late Model stars Jason Parker, Mike Bentley and Gord Shepherd. Laking’s 2012 efforts will carry support from Spira Fire Protection, Boucher & Jones Fuels and Total Home Energy Systems of St. Jacobs.
