GORES LANDING, ON (July 11, 2018)- Once a weekend racer achieves any level of success on the track, there isn’t much that will keep them away from pursuing their passion. After getting his start in the Pro Stock division at Brighton Speedway, Brandon Murrell looked to take the next step in his driving career. The 25 year-old from Gore’s Landing, Ontario made some selected starts at the controls of a Sprint Car machine, in addition to regular runs in his full-fendered piece. At the start of the 2018 season, the owner-operator of Mayhew Graphics made the move to running the winged warrior a full-time racing choice and added the three hour Friday night tow through the GTA to Ohsweken Speedway to his motorsports agenda.

“I had a lot of fun racing the Pro Stock, but from the first laps I turned in the sprinter, I knew I’d found my home,” Brandon Murrell said. “These cars are a blast to drive. You feel like you’re running on the ragged edge every time you hit the track. The horsepower to weight ratio is incredible and when that big right-rear tire grabs a bit of bite on the cushion, it just launches you through the turn and down the straightaway.”

While he’s learning the subtle nuances of how the Sprint Car perform under race conditions, Brandon Murrell is also getting the chance to watch his brother Ryan at the wheel of the team’s #11 Thunder Stock chassis; as the division was rebranded at the start of the year. The 20-year-old has turned some solid laps since the season’s first green flag and even though this is his first foray into the sport, he’s learning about racing in the highly competitive field at the local 1/3-mile clay raceway.

“It takes a lot of effort to get a pair of cars ready to race at the same place every week; let alone two entirely different cars in different classes,” Brandon Murrell admitted. “Luckily, Ryan and I get a lot of help from the crew that includes our parents Terry and Lori Murrell, our uncle Tim and Joe Panepinto. Also Jamie Turner, Ryan Turner, Cory Turner, Mary Anne Turner and the entire Team Turner Crew have been quick to step up to the plate and offer their expertise.”

With close to 40 machines fighting it out for 24 starting spots in Crate Sprint Car action at Ohsweken, Brandon Murrell is proud of his season best finish just outside of the top 10, because he says just getting into the ‘A’ main is a tough order of business. Meanwhile, his brother Ryan is in 13th place in Brighton Speedway’s Thunder Stock division point standings.

For the 2018 schedule, Murrell Motorsports receives marketing support from Mayhew Graphics, Yorkie’s BBQ, Murrell’s Home Renovations and DSE Performance. Like all short track teams, the group always welcomes inquiries from additional advertising partners. To learn more, contact the team at murrellmotorsports@gmail.com.
