KINCARDINE, ON (May 25, 2018)- Debuting a brand new No. 17 Honda Civic, Kevin Bridge was able to work out the bugs during practice to win the opening round of the Great Lakes Concrete Series at Sunset Speedway as part of the track’s Spring Velocity.
The Kincardine, Ontario native was fast from the start in qualifying, picking up the victory in his first heat. He then backed it up with a runner-up in the second qualifier.
Starting eighth in the feature, he was able to barely avoid a spin in the first turn on the opening lap to move up two spots to sixth. Restarting just outside of the top-five, he would move into third on Lap 3.
Bridge would ride solidly in third, though slowly was able to close the gap to the next car in line. He would get alongside Craig Kamrath for second at Lap 12, completing the pass a lap later.
With 23 laps to go, it seemed the gap between Bridge and the leader was too big to make-up as he made his way through lap traffic. However, the two-time Sauble Speedway Mini Stock Champion didn’t give up, closing the gap to Warren Paxton as the race neared conclusion.
He would make his move with four laps to go, passing Paxton and leading the rest of the way en route to winning the feature.
“It’s a brand new car, never been to the track before,” Kevin Bridge said in victory lane. “We threw the same set-up we had in it with our other car and it just seemed to work. The new tires – you can feel them fading off a little bit, but it stayed good for the whole run.”
The next round of the Great Lakes Concrete Series is July 1 at Sauble Speedway. Kevin Bridge will be in action before then as Sauble will open their schedule on June 9.
