STROUD, ON (May 25, 2018)- After a long winter going through their program and making it stronger, Semple Motorsports returned to Sunset Speedway on Monday afternoon, ready to see if their hard work had paid off.
Semple was solid in his first qualifier, scoring a fifth-place finish. The second heat, though, was where he began to shine. With an impressive three-wide move mid-way through the race, he was able to put the No. 64 Super Stock in victory lane.
Starting 11th for the main event, he began to make up ground immediately, cracking the top-10 just four laps into the event. The progress continue as he’d make his way up to eighth by the first caution at Lap 13.
On the restart with 38 laps to go, he’d make his way up to seventh, battling with Coltin Everingham for sixth. The battle would turn interesting, as he’d end up in the midst of three-wide once again, this time with Everingham and Herb Walters for fifth. He would come out on top, making his way into the top-five before the third yellow flag at Lap 18.
Restarting inside the top-five, he would get alongside Brandon McConnell for fourth at the halfway mark, completing the pass two laps later. Another caution at Lap 34, Semple used the restart to his advantage to move up into third.
Unfortunately, this is when the run would come to an end as the car shut off, forcing Semple to pull off the track on Lap 38 with a mechanical problem.
Moving forward, the plan is to make this year as a fun of possible, running a partial schedule that include a variety of dates.
