BRIGHTON, Ont. (May 21, 2022) – Jordan Poirier was the winner on Saturday night at Brighton Speedway as the Southern Ontario Sprints tour returned to the Northumberland County oval for the first time since August 31, 2019.
Jacob Dykstra and Jake Brown made up the front row for the first SOS feature at Brighton in more than two years. Brown led the first seven laps, but row four starter Jordan Poirier moved forward quickly and took the the lead from Brown on lap eight. Paul Pekkonen brought out the yellow flag one lap later with a spin in turn two.
Poirier continued to lead when the race restarted, while Liam Martin took the second spot from Brown on lap 14. Glenn Styres and Jake Brown raced for the third position until Dykstra secured that spot on lap 19. Poirier stretched his lead to more than six seconds by the end of the race and claimed the first SOS win of his career, and first at Brighton as well.
Martin took the runner-up position, followed by Dykstra, Brown, and Kyle Phillips. Heat race wins went to Cory Turner and Jacob Dykstra, while Glenn Styres won the Rafla Towing Dash for Cash.
