In the September 5th edition of Spencer Lewis’ Short Track Notebook, we follow up with JR Fitzpatrick, Jeff Lapcevich and Gary Klutt after their phenomenal runs at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. We also catch Nick Goetz stealing the show at Sunset Speedway and Sean Cronan returning to victory lane for his second career Ltd. Late Model win.
Sunset Speedway Ltd. Late Model regular Nick Goetz stole the show on August 30th, surprising girlfriend Debra with a proposal on the front-straightaway in front of a capacity crowd. Lucky for Nick, Debra said yes and even luckier we caught it all on camera. Click here for the video.
JR Fitzpatrick (above, by John Walker) won his second Canadian Tire Motorsport Park event of the season on August 31st, in Round 9 of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. The Pinty’s presents The Clarington 200 victory marked Fitzpatrick’s 10th career NCATS triumph. NCATS veteran Jeff Lapcevich (above, by Al Thomas) also impressed in the Pinty’s presents The Clarington 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, following Fitzpatrick across the line in second position. The performance earned Lapcevich his third runner-up effort in his last four starts at CTMP. The Grimsby, ON standout took the time to chat with us post-race about his formidable road course program, his comfort level at CTMP and his feeling heading into Round 10 of the Series at Barrie Speedway. Perhaps one of the biggest surprises of Sunday’s event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park was the breakout performance of second-generation star Gary Klutt. The Halton Hills, ON driver worked his way as high as 2nd, running amongst the leaders all afternoon before coming home with a strong 6th place finish. Post-race, Klutt talks about his confidence level being at an all-time high, and his possible plans for the 2015 campaign. Click here for the interview.
Ltd. Late Model veteran Sean Cronan tallied his second career Sunset Speedway win on August 30th. The Craighurst, ON driver dominated the penultimate ‘Super Series’ event, taking full advantage of pulling a ‘1’ on the pre-race invert and leading all 50-laps of competition.
