QUEENSVILLE, ON- For the first time in his career, veteran Jason Witty will compete in two divisions at Peterborough Speedway’s legendary Autumn Colours Classic on October 10th, 11th & 12th. ‘Bam Bam’ will enter his family-owned Ltd. Late Model ride, and will also partner with McColl Racing Enterprises head Mike McColl to make his ‘Classic’ Pro Late Model debut in the division’s 114-lap A Main on Sunday afternoon.
“We’ve been trying to win the Classic for a long time, so we figured racing two divisions in one weekend might help our odds a little bit”, explained Witty with a laugh.
“Our Limited Late Model has been strong at Sunset all season, so the plan was to take it to Peterborough all along”, continued Witty. “But, then we got talking to [chassis builder] Mike McColl and he mentioned that he had a car in his shop that would make the ideal Pro Late Model entry”
“Lucky for me, I have the best family and crew in the business, so it didn’t take a lot of convincing to get them on board with the extra work”
With 3 victories to his credit this season, ‘Bam Bam’ stands to enter the 75-lap event as a heavy favourite to break fellow Sunset veteran Dwayne Baker’s 2-year winning streak.
“Dwayne’s been great the last two years at the ‘Classic’, he’s definitely the high water mark right now”, said Witty. “We’ve always had great cars that weekend, but have never had the luck to put it all together. Last year we spun late in the race, a few years before that we had a rearend fall apart on us while leading”
“It’s all about strategy. Peterborough can burn up your equipment awful quickly if you’re not careful. Hopefully we’re able to save our stuff for most of the race, and be in a position to make a push late in the going”
Despite his relative inexperience at the Pro Late Model level, it’s clear Witty is ready to see just where his team stacks up against some of the bigger names in the province.
“The Pro Late Models always seem to put on a great show”, explained Witty. “They draw a tonne of quality drivers with top shelf equipment. A lot of their frontrunners are guys that I don’t get to race against on a regular basis, so it’s going to be an interesting change of pace to see where we fit it with them”
“I have all the confidence in the world in our Pro Late Model ride. Mike and the rest of the team at McColl Racing Enterprises build phenomenal equipment. There’s going to be an obvious feeling out process, trying to get a feel for a car I’ve never raced before, but I don’t think it’ll be anything that we won’t be able to work through in practice and qualifying”
“This is a huge opportunity”, continued Witty. “The ‘Classic’ is the biggest race weekend of the year, and I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to compete twice as much this season”
Jason Witty’s 2014 Autumn Colours Classic entries will carry marketing support from Larue’s Haulage, Carrot Express, Speedy Auto Machine, Queensville Sod and Matco Tools. Additional packages are available, and prospective partners can contact Jason by email at info@jasonwittyrealty.com.
