@NewHumberstone •PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO (June 26, 2016) Shone Evans from Scotland, Ontario was victorious in the main event for the Crate Sprint Cars on Pinty’s Delicious Foods night at Humberstone Speedway.
Brad Rouse from St. Catharines, Ontario picked up his third PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman feature of the 2016 racing season. Macedon, NY’s Chad Homan made his first ever appearance at Humberstone pay off as he scored the win in the Pinty’s Delicious Foods RUSH Late Models. Dave Bailey from Hagersville, Ontario won his first JC Auto Street Stock feature of the season. Dillon Llord from St. Catharines, Ontario won his fourth Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Truck feature. Kyle Rothwell from Welland, Ontario won his first Cosco Haulage Mini Stock feature of the season.
Shone Evans and Jesse McDonald shared the front row for the Crate Sprint Car A-Main with Evans leading over McDonald and Aaron Turkey early on. Evans was the leader with McDonald beginning to reel in the leader at the halfway point. Davey Boughton slowed in turn two to bring out the races first caution on lap 12. Evans drove away on the restart but McDonald quickly reeled him in, setting up a battle for the win. Evans was able to hold off McDonald to pick up the win. Aaron Turkey rounded out the podium finishers. For Evans, it was his first career victory of any kind.
Tyler Puchalski and Jordan Cosco brought the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman to the green flag for their 25 lap feature event, with Puchalski showing the way. Brad Rouse started eighth on the grid and was up to fourth, battling McPherson for third place at the end of lap one. Cosco and Puchalski made contact coming off turn four, and Cody McPherson would take over the lead. Brad Rouse would take the lead off a lap seven restart, going to the outside of McPherson. Jay Mallory, Jordan Cosco, and Jeff Armstrong would all get around McPherson as McPherson was having handling issues during the mid-point of the feature. McPherson would battle with Armstrong for fourth and would complete the pass with five laps remaining. Rouse would pull away to score the win, his third on the season. Jay Mallory would finish in second followed by Jordan Cosco, McPherson and Armstrong would complete the top five.
Tim Gillespie and Chad Homan were on the front row for the Pinty’s Delicious Foods RUSH Late Model feature event and it was Homan jumping out into the lead. Jeff Dayman passed Gillespie to take over second on lap three. Homan pulled away from Dayman with Pennacchio, Zack Carley driving for Rob Pietz and Dennis Lunger Jr running in the top five at the halfway point. Sam Pennacchio passed Jeff Dayman with three laps to go to take over second place. Chad Homan pulled away to pick up his first career Humberstone victory. Pennacchio held off Dayman for second with Zack Carley finishing in fourth.
Jason Fontaine took off into the lead on the takeoff lap in the JC Auto Street Stock feature. Dave Bailey look underneath Fontaine and would take over the lead on lap five. Bailey would pull away from Fontaine as Kyle Pelrine looked underneath Fontaine for second at the half way point but Fontaine was able to hold off the challenges from Pelrine. Dave Bailey drove away from the rest of the field to pick up the victory. Fontaine held off Pelrine with Bill Bleich Jr and Rob Murray completing the top five. Bailey’s win made it the fourth different JC Auto Street Stock driver to find victory lane so far in 2016.
Dillon Llord and Mitch Dumont brought the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks to the green flag for their feature event and it was Llord showing the way. Frank Perry moved around Dumont to take over second on lap three and Craig Vlasic moved into third. Llord was dominant throughout the 15 main event as he led from green to checkered to pick up the victory, his fourth of the season. Frank Perry and Craig Vlasic finished second and third respectively. The results are unofficial pending a technical review.
Trevor Young and Kyle Rothwell shared the front row for the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks and it was Rothwell leading on lap one. Rob Goulding looked underneath Young for second but Young was holding him off. Mike Sarantakos spun in turn one to bring out the races first caution on lap five. On the restart, Rothwell jumped back into the lead as Leroy Buscumb took third away from Goulding on the restart. Buscumb then went around Young to take over second at the halfway mark. Rothwell pulled away from Buscumb, Goulding and Tony Kelly to pick up the win.
NEWS AND NOTES: A total of 78 race cars signed in pitside for the racing program. Young fans Clayton, Raelyn, Niva and Kira were our Lucas Oil/Leslie Motorsports Jr Fan Members of the Week. They all received a prize pack from Lucas Oil and Leslie Motorsports. As part of being the Jr. Fan Member of the week, they all said “the most famous words in Motorsports” as well as got the chance to ride in the Pace Car and get his picture taken with each of the feature winners.
Humberstone will return to action on Sunday July 3rd as Tidyman Maintenance and Port Colborne Laundry presents the Kid’s Poster Contest plus Vintage Cars and the complete Humberstone weekly racing program. Also on the card will be the first Eve of Destruction Enduro qualifier. Gates will open at 4:30 with race time set for 6:30pm.
