Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and NEOPMA/PMRA Pro Modifieds return to Empire Dragway

CAYUGA, ON – The second of this year’s Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Challenge’s at Empire Dragway, in Leicester, NY is set to take place August 18-19. While Melanie Salemi and John Camp were declared co-winners in the Pro Modified final at the previous Challenge, the finals in the companion Quick 32 Sportsman Series were postponed due to the weather.

Top Dragster and Top Sportsman cars competed on their own with the Pro Modifieds, but the final two postponed rounds will take place on Friday August 18. Top Dragster and Top Sportsman finals will take place at 2:00 pm, with the finals of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series at 4:00 pm. The second complete program of Pro Modifieds and Quick 32 Sportsman Series entries will begin qualifying on Friday at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm and Saturday at 12:00 pm, with eliminations starting at 2:00 pm.

The Top Sportsman final from July 1 will pit Jennifer Guenther of Livonia, NY, in her big-block Chevy Nova, against the 1955 Chevy of Doug Lynden of Bergen, NY. On the Top Dragster side, Lucas Salemi of Clarence Center, NY with his S&W Race Cars dragster is pitted against McGraw, NY’s Cody Reome. The top eliminator between the door cars and the dragsters will then race on the eighth-mile track, to decide the event champion.

A full field of competitors is expected once again for both the Pro Modifieds and Quick 32 Sportsman Series. The last event saw 21 Pro Modifieds qualify, along with 18 Top Dragsters and 20 Top Sportsman. PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series Director Bruce Mehlenbacher expects as many, if not more entries for this August event.
