@57Sandercock •@BrightonSpdwy •@gonuclearseries • BRIGHTON, Ont. (June 26, 2016) – Charlie Sandercock (No.57 Bellevue Fabricating) used a lap 24 pass in traffic to take the lead from Brandon Mowat (No.46 Target Fabrication) and led the second half of the race to earn his first win of the season with the Go Nuclear Late Model Series at his home track Brighton Speedway on Saturday night.

“The car was working well tonight. We’ve been tinkering on it for the last couple of weeks to get it where we want it. It worked a lot better tonight,” Sandercock commented following the win.

Caley Weese (No.77 Cool 100) and Mowat brought the 21-car field to the green flag in the 50-lap Schools Out Shootout event presented by Deerhaven Farm and Garden. Mowat jumped to the early lead, but a pair of cautions on lap two and six slowed the field.

The restart on lap six began a 28-lap green flag run where Mowat drove to the lead, but had company the entire time in the form of fourth-starting Steve Baldwin (No.5 Pro Advantage). The two drivers raced nose to tail for several laps as Sandercock began his charge through the field.

On lap 14, Sandercock, who was the fast qualifier and also won his heat, took the fourth position after starting ninth following the redraw. As Mowat and Baldwin encountered lapped traffic on lap 17, it opened the door for Sandercock to gain on the lead duo.

Sandercock stalked Baldwin until taking the runner-up position on lap 21 and three laps later passed Mowat on the backstretch to take the lead at the halfway point. From there, Sandercock drove away from the field, growing his lead to 5.1 seconds when the third and final yellow flag of the night waved on lap 34 when Greg Belyea (No.25 Excel Tower Service) spun off the end in turn three.

“I obviously wasn’t looking forward to a caution,” Sandercock said. “I felt we were moving through lapped traffic really well and I didn’t know if the guys behind me were following me right through. I really didn’t want that caution, but we still made out alright.”

The restart gave Mowat and Baldwin there chance to reel in the point man, but were no match for the Trenton native over the final 16 laps. Phil Potts (No.29 Vanderlaan Building Products) was the biggest beneficiary of the yellow flag, Potts drove by Baldwin on lap 38 and then Mowat with eight to go to claim the second spot. By that point, however, Potts was in need of a caution to help erase a 3-second Sandercock advantage that proved insurmountable.

At the finish line, Sandercock led Potts, Mowat, Adam Turner (No.92 Village Variety) and Baldwin. Turner, however, was disqualified in post-race technical inspection for a minor tire infraction. As a result, Baldwin claimed fourth and Chad Homan (No.91 DigTrack.com) finished fifth.
