BRIGHTON, ON (July 24, 2017)-  – Owasco RV and Adecco presented the Summer Smash Monster Truck Extravaganza on Saturday night at Brighton Speedway. Overkill Evolution with driver Matt Cody and Higher Education with driver Preston Perez left a path of destruction in their wake. It was also an action packed night of dirt track racing for the Vanderlaan Building Supply Pro Late Models, OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modifieds, Bill’s Johns Comp 4’s and the Quinte Septic Stingers.

Baldwin Bests The Rest
The Vanderlaan Building Supply Pro Late Models had a fresh face in victory lane as Steve Baldwin (No. 5) won his first feature of the season. Caley Weese (No. 77) and Robbie Wilson (No. 09) started on the front row of the 30 lap main event. Weese led the opening five circuits while Greg Belyea (No. 25) quickly moved to the second position. The top two swapped spots on lap 6 and Belyea built a sizeable advantage until a spin by Kyle Sopaz (No. 12) just prior to the half way mark of the race brought out the yellow flag. Point leader Charlie Sandercock (No. 57) made contact with Sopaz and twice during the lap and was forced to the pit area. He returned, but was unable to contend due to the damage.
On the restart Weese moved back by Belyea briefly before relinquishing the lead for the final time on lap 14. By this time Steve Baldwin had worked his way into the top three and began to apply pressure to the top two. Using the bottom lane to his advantage, Baldwin marched passed both Weese and leader Belyea in the last 10 laps to claim the victory. Belyea held on to finish second while Brandon Mowatt (No. 46), Corey Earl (No. 20) and Weese completed the top five.

Doug Digs Deep
The final round of the ABC Taxi Triple Crown was on the race card for the OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modifieds. Rich Sanders (No. 29) started on the pole alongside Mitch Rosborough (No. 36) for the 30 lap event. Both drivers took turns leading before third place starter Brandon Gregory (No. 22) took the top spot on lap 7. Gregory led the next five circuits over Doug O’Blenis (No. 32) and point leader Andrew Hennessy (No. 87). O’Blenis found speed on the outside lane and took the lead with just 11 laps left.
The race was slowed by just one caution as pole sitter Sanders car came to rest in corner one on lap 24. This set up a final opportunity for Gregory, Hennessy, Curtis King (No. 07) and Charlie Sandercock (No. 91) to knock O’Blenis from the top spot. None of them were successful though as the Napanee driver cruised to his second win of the season. Hennessy and King slipped by Gregory to finish second and third while Sandercock finished fifth behind Gregory.

French Flies To First
It was a dominating night in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 division for Matthew French (No. 51). Driving his brother Josh’s car he won both his heat and feature for the first time this season. French started on the front row with Keith Dunk (No. 22) and easily rocketed to the lead.
The Trenton driver led every lap unchallenged while brother Tyler French (No. 0), Adam Flieler (No. 11) and Jeff Humphry (No. 17) dueled for positions second to fourth. Matthew and Tyler made it an all French top two while Humphry got by Flieler with two laps remaining to finish third. Flieler finished fourth and Nathan Day (No. 14), subbing for Matthew Moore, was fifth.

Golden and Gregory Grab Stinger Glory
For just the third time this season the Quinte Septic Stingers took to the 1/3 mile clay oval to compete. In the Junior Stinger feature Brock Gregory (No. 1) started on the pole next to Gary Crain (No. 23) and led all 15 laps for his first win of the year. Crain finished second with James Turgeon (No. 87), Joel Dempster (No. 13) and Dylan Lobb (No. 7) completed the top five.
In just her second race since graduating from the Junior division, Brittany Golden started on the pole and also led every lap to claim her first ever Super Stinger race. It was her second win of the season after she claimed the first Junior division feature earlier in the year. Rick Phillips (No. 7) was her closest competition and finished second. Point leader Chris Lammle (No. 95), Gary Taylor (No. 89) and Mark MacDonald (No. 28) ended the 15 lap race in positions third through fifth.

Up Next – Gord’s Water Vantastics
Next Saturday night Bellevue Fabricating and Campbellford Chrysler present the return of the Gord’s Water Vantastic van races. The Vanderlaan Building Supplies Pro Late Models will also be on the card along with the OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modifieds, Bill’s Johns Comp 4’s, and the final round of the Larry’s Towing Triple Crown for the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks. Racing starts at 7:00 PM. Adult admission is $10. For more information visit www.brightonspeedway.com.
