BRIGHTON, ON (March 6, 2019)- After a successful 2018 season in books, it is time to get back to business ramping up for the 2019 campaign of racing on the 1/3rd mile clay oval and it all begins this weekend in Toronto for the Annual Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo! Brighton Speedway will be on hand at the annual show this weekend displaying the cars of 2018 Vanderlaan Building Products Late Model Champion #57 Charlie Sandercock, the Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modified #3 of Nate Rinaldi and the Southern Ontario Sprint #22 of Shawn Sliter. Also available this weekend will be the release of the 2019 schedule filled with twenty-four action packed events from May till October with our weekly divisions consisting of the Vanderlaan Building Products Late Models, Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Thunder Stocks, Bill’s Johns Comp 4 / Mini Stocks and the Quinte Septic Stingers!
The first dirt flying night will happen on May 4th with the annual Loud and Dirty Brand Season Opener presented by Coca Cola. Fans can enjoy a night of racing for just two toonie’s and a donation to the Brighton Fare Share Food Bank. This event has become one of the biggest food drives the Brighton Food Bank has all year and continues to grow each season thanks to the generosity of Brighton Speedway fans and drivers.
The Southern Ontario Sprints presented by Sanderson Tire and Automotive will make Brighton Speedway a regular stop once again on their 2019 schedule with a total of six races at the Lake Ontario Oval. They will kick off the SOS season on Victoria Day weekend on May 18th, returning again on June 15th, July 6th, July 27th and twice during their Annual Southern Ontario Sprints Labour Day Classic Weekend for a double header of Sprint Cars on Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st! Labour Day Sunday is also known as Topless Night around the oval as two divisions will compete without their lids; Brighton Speedway Late Models as well as the Simon Petit Memorial Wingless Sprint Car Dash. It will also feature special events for Thunder Stocks as well as Comp 4 / Mini Stocks.
June is a month not to be missed and features not only the SOS sprints for die hard race fans but also a bit of variety and excitement for the casual fans that like to add to their Saturday night. June 1st features the first visit of the Workman OK Tire School Bus Races and then the Gerow Propane Summer Smash Monster Truck showdown will be held on June 22nd. Fans will see the 2015 Monster Jam World Freestyle Champion Mikey Vaters II return in Overkill Evolution and Matt Cody will be in Black Stallion as they invade the Brighton Speedway. Last year Mikey had the crowd on the edge of their seats as he ruthlessly crushed vehicles all over the speedway and this year Matt returns. Since his last visit in 2016 Matt won’t want to be over shadowed and we will see if Black Stallion can excite the crowd as much or more than Overkill Evolution! The month of June will close out with the annual Brighton Automotive Canada Day Championships featuring time trials, extra distance races, double points and a Mystical Distributing Fireworks display on Saturday, June 29th.
July continues to be busy around the Speedway but is highlighted with one of the most favoured nights of the year filled with nostalgia as the Annual Wall of Fame Inductions return Saturday, July 13th along with the OSCAAR Hot Rod Racers. Gord’s Water Vantastics will also make its first appearance of the season on July 13th. The very next week the nostalgia continues as the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club comes to town for the first of two appearances on July 20th.
August marks the return of the Action Sprint Tour to Brighton Speedway on Saturday the 17th. Coming off a highly successful first season the Tour is headed back out on the road for 2019 looking for even bigger and better things. August will also feature Fan Appreciation on August 24th and the popular mechanics races on August 17th and 24th.
September will start out with the aforementioned Ultramar Parkland Fuels Labour Day Weekend Classic double header Southern Ontario Sprint show. A week later the drivers will be recognized as Champions are crowned on Saturday, September 7th in all 5 divisions! The night is also host to the Annual John’s Equipment Danny Reid Memorial 50 Lap Race for Canadian Modifieds paying $2,000 to win!
The Speedway will then sit idle for a weekend on September 14th as staff prepares for the annual Cool 100 Applefest Shootout Weekend, an event that is now in its 15th year. This double header continues to grow with record crowds and drawing over 300 cars from all over Ontario, Quebec, and New York competing over the two days in 2019. Overflow pit area and camping has been required in the last few years attesting to the success of the weekend and plans are in the works to expand this even further this upcoming September. The 2019 version of the event will kick off on Friday September 20th featuring DIRTcar Sportsman Super Dirt Series Race I, NLMA Late Model Series Race, Eastern Ontario Vintage Classic, Comp 4 Special 25 lap Open, the Canadian Modified / UMP Challenge Series event and Thunder Stocks. Saturday marks the return of the mighty 358 DIRTcar Modifieds with the 75 Lap 358 Modified Applefest Shootout! Dirtcar Sportsman Series Race II, NLMA Series 50 Lap Great Crate Race for Late Models as well as the Canadian Modified / UMP Challenge Series and the 50 Lap Duel in the Dirt Thunder Stock Series! The Applefest Shootout weekend is brought to you by Cool 100, Coca Cola, Imagefactor.ca, VP Race Fuels and Loud and Dirt Brand.
Saturday, September 28th will be the second annual Applefest Karting and Lawn Mower Shootout. The weekend was a huge success in 2018 with almost 80 Karter’s and Lawn Mower racers in the pits for the inaugural event. With price money and hardware on the line, karters from the East and the West make the trip for an exciting day on the mini oval.
The season will close out Saturday, October 5th with the fans favourite; The Lange and Fetter Ford and Loud and Dirty Brand Eve of Destruction. This popular event features the Workman OK Tire School Bus Races, offering a day if fun and excitement that entertains fans of all ages. The day’s events include the Hotch’s Auto Parts 100 Lap Monster Enduro Race, a Youth Enduro, Ladies Enduro, Trailer Race, Flag Pole Race, Long Jump Competition, The Gauntlet and for the finale the Brighton Recycling Demo Derby! The event has been a sell out for past few years and tickets will be available in advance so.
