@Sunset_Speedway •BARRIE, Ont. – August 12, 2016 – Wendy Adams endured a roller coaster month of July, but has regrouped to challenge for a top-10 spot in the Sunset Speedway Mighty Mini Stock point standings in August. She also looks forward to hosting the Family Mental Health Night at Sunset in support of New Path Youth and Family Services on August 20.

The Barrie, Ont. pilot finally got her new Pro Signs/Fastenal of Midland/Ernie’s Performance No.78 Mustang setup to her liking when lady luck suddenly disappeared. A mid-month incident where she hit the wall derailed her from a top-10 position in the championship standings.

“I actually ended up with a small fracture in my elbow. There was a little damage to the car, but we had a week off to fix it,” explained Adams, who is battling through the injury.

She rebounded the following week and had a top-10 run until being incorrectly deemed an involved car and was sent to the rear. Last weekend, the misfortune continued when the power plant expired on her car.

“Last weekend, we were doing great and three laps in to the feature my motor decides to go poof,” Adam said. “Sunday, we pulled the motor and got the backup motor in. Wednesday we got it fired, so we’re ready to go with the backup motor.”

With the new heartbeat in place, Adams hopes to get back on track this weekend. With helpful advice from engine builder Billy Howard tucked firmly in her back pocket, Adams is poised for a better run.

“I know I have a good car, I know have a good motor. I just need the confidence to put it to the floor every time and push it,” Adams affirmed. ““I can still crack the top-10. I’m not out of it.”

Despite her recent struggles, Adams remains committed to her goal and believes she can only continue to improve.

“I’m having a lot of fun and ,overall, I love my car. When it’s setup like it is now, I can maneuver it quite easily,” Adams explained. “I know I have a good car, I know its safe, I know I can have fun and I know I’m still building my confidence. I know I can only get better.”

This week will be a tune-up before her very important Mental Health awareness night on August 20. The night is organized in memory of Adams’ late son, Zackery Foxcroft, who died after committing suicide on August 17, 2011 after a long battle with mental health issues. Proceeds from the night’s 50/50 draw will be donated to New Path Youth & Family Services.

“I’m very excited. We’re hoping to raise a lot of money for New Path Youth & Family Services. It’s nice to be able to do this so close to the date Zackery’s death. Obviously we do it in his memory to raise awareness,” Adams said.

“A lot of the people at the track know my situation, but for the new people coming in, it’s about making sure that everybody knows it’s a great cause.”

Adams hopes the night will help educate the community about mental health while helping to shed the stigma surrounding the topic. There is a shortage of mental health services for families and children in the area, Adams said, adding all funds raised are incredibly important for New Path. Volunteers from New Path will be on hand to help distribute information to fans, drivers and staff.

“There are so many people out there with children dealing with all types of mental health. The more funds we raise, the better it is for New Path,” Adams said. “I want people to know how important it is. I don’t want them to be in my shoes.”
