@VintageMods •@FlamboroSpdwy •MiLLGROVE, Ont. – May 24, 2016 – Steve Trendell of Fergus, Ont. engineered his pole starting position in to a trip to Victory Lane in the 50th Season Opener for the Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds at Flamboro Speedway on Saturday, May 21.

Trendell started on the point with his No.57 Combined Auto & Truck Repair car and Brian Atkinson (No.92 Performance Plus Automotive) lined up to his outside. Trendell held an early lead and began to pull away from the field over the first half of the race.

As Trendell ran his own race, Atkinson was engaged in a fierce battle for second with Jason Keen (No.18 Oakville Auto & Diesel Machine Shop). At the time, Trendell led a three-car breakaway from the rest of the field that was followed by fourth-place running TJ Marshall (No.15 Sweers Custom Painting) and Mike Podd (No.5 Competition Engines).

In the closing laps of the race, the handling deteriorated on Trendell’s No.57, allowing both Atkinson and Keen to pull within striking distance of the lead car. Trendell needed every inch of the racetrack to defend the hungry pair of drivers, but successfully held the fort over the final seven laps to claim the victory.

At the finish line, Trendell led Atkinson, Keen, Marshall and Podd to complete the top-five.

In qualifying heat action, Trendell earned a heat one victory over Podd while Atkinson claimed the second heat ahead of Keen.
