LONDON, Ont. – June 21, 2017 – A mechanical failure haunted Matt Pritiko’s effort for a second podium finish with the APC United Late Model Series last Saturday at Peterborough Speedway. Pritiko raced as high as second and was in contention for a victory in the latter half of the race when the MSD coil on the car failed.
“We were in second for 60 laps and the coil broke on the MSD box and the car totally quit,” Pritiko explained. “It sucks. We actually ran well with a stock 604 motor. We literally pulled it out of the crate and bolted it in. All things considered, it was good while it lasted.”
After afternoon showers delayed and reduced practice and qualifying, Pritiko times in second quickest in Group Time Trials.
“We ran 12th for a while in qualifying and then I just barreled it into turns three and four and drove out really hard and it shot me up to second,” Pritiko said.
Following the redraw, Pritiko started third for the main event, which put him in the preferred bottom groove. The track position was enough to allow him to make an early move forward.
“I made my way to second on the third or fourth lap,” Pritiko said. “From there on out I ran in second-place. I just didn’t really have enough for the leader. With the car handling the way it was, it would have been a solid second-place finish.”
The end result, however, did not produce a top-five finish as Pritiko expected. The failure with 40 laps to go simply ended his night.
“Going into corner one, the MSD just quit on us,” Pritiko said. “There’s absolutely nothing you can do about it. We’re kind of in a string of bad luck right now.”
Pritiko still has a second-place finish and a top-10 to his credit this year. Now, he hopes to turn his luck around when he returns to his home track at Delaware Speedway for round four of the APC United Late Model Series season on Canada Day, July 1.
“The speed and the openness of the track is nice,” Pritiko said of Delaware. “The first three races have all been tight and hard to pass, so it’s going to be nice to go to a big track where there’s room to pass and we can put on a show. We’re looking forward to going back to our home track.”
Pritiko is excited to welcome supporters from Global Warranty to Delaware for the Canada Day show with a hospitality tent.
“There’s going to be a tent for Global Warranty again, so we’re looking forward to seeing them again,” Pritiko said. “Hopefully we can turn our luck around and get a win.”
