2012 Flamboro Speedway championship runner-up Steve Laking has announced plans to compete in November 24th’s ‘Mason Dixon Meltdown’. The event, contested under PASS Super Late Model Tour sanctioning, will run 200-laps at the historic Concord Speedway. While this weekend will mark Laking’s debut with PASS’s premier Super Late Model tour, the Guelph, ON veteran previously competed with the PASS Super Limited tour at Hickory Motor Speedway in April.
Laking will make the 1,200+ km trip to Concord with the same chassis and engine package he competes with at Flamboro Speedway every Saturday, with hopes that his crate engine will aid in tire conservation over the 200-lap distance.
Past winners of the crown jewel event include multi-time PASS champions Ben Rowe and Johnny Clark, PASS North standout Cassius Clark, Georgia native Justin Wakefield and Texan Colt James.
Laking will not be the lone canuck in action, New Brunswick native Matt Matheson has also filed entry for the final PASS sanctioned event of the season. The entry list is further highlighted by Brad Keselowski development drivers Landon Cling and Nate Caruth, former PASS champion Preston Peltier, second-generation competitor Kyle Grissom, Washington-state veteran Garrett Evans and young standouts Cole Timm and Gray Gaulding.
Laking’s efforts will be supported by Spira Fire Protection and Mackay Enterprises.
