PETERBOROUGH, ON – Even with some impromptu storms rolling through the area, the team at Peterborough Speedway managed to put a full show into the record books Saturday, July 18 for racing sponsored by the regional Tirecraft dealers at the popular Central Ontario Oval.
Christen Lavalle and Cory Horne were on the front row for the 20 lap SwitchTire Mini Stock headliner that kicked off the home track feature action. Lavalle took the lead on the drop of the green flag, with Cameron McGlashan moving into the runner up spot. Matt McGrath and former Bone Stock runner Tegan Stanley brought their dogs to the fight before a yellow flag for an issue on the front stretch slowed the pace with 7 laps complete. A second caution – this time for an issue in the 2nd turn, with less than a handful of laps remaining – brought the pack together for a battle to the checkered flag. John Lavalle picked up the win, with Austyn Jennett, Dave Bragg, McGrath and Horne completing the top 5.
Coltin Everingham and Dan Archibald led the way for the 25-lap Super Stock ‘A’ main. The No. 48 car has been strong all season and grabbed the early race lead. It wasn’t long before he, current point leader Bailey Jacobs and Archibald broke away from the pack. The trio started working through slower traffic with 18 laps on the scoreboard. It was a great run for Everingham, whose consistent laps led to a Peterborough Speedway checkered flag in the caution-free showdown. Jacobs and Archibald were next across the stripe, with Herb Walters and Paul Boundy finishing out the top 5.
The opening segment for the 2026 Bill Pickford Memorial saw Glenn Morris and Chad Strawn lead the starting field to the green flag. Strawn took the initial lead, with John Baker Jr. moving into the 2nd. A yellow flag with 14 laps complete slowed the pace and brought the pack together. Strawn held his advantage on the restart, with JBJ mirroring his every move. Last year’s overall winner Chad Strawn laid the foundation for a repeat performance with the 30-lap triumph over John Baker Jr. Kyle Gordon, Ethan Thompson and Rick Warnes completed the top 5.
Rick Warnes and Ethan Thompson were on the front row as the 31 lap second half of the Bill Pickford Memorial rolled from the staging area. After working around Kyle Gordon and John Baker Jr. who started just ahead of him, Chad Strawn took the race lead with 7 circuits complete. The frontrunners started working through slower traffic with about 10 laps on the scoreboard. Strawn had a straightway advantage over JBJ, Gordon and Warnes near lap 17 and a survived a late race yellow flag to lock-up the win. Baker Jr., Gordon, Garrett Yake and Warnes wrapped up the 2nd segment top 5.
Matt Haufe and Dawson Drimmie paced the 23 starters to the green flag for the night’s first of 2 Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Series headliners. Haufe grabbed the early race lead, with fellow inside line starters Adam Cuthbertson and Keaton Pipe chasing the leader for the first handful or circuits. Things took a scary turn with a red flag for an incident in the 2nd turn a flip by Wes Cuthbertson. The driver was checked and released by track safety staff, but his car was too badly damaged to continue. A handful of teams were still in contention for the win, when Adam Cuthbertson took the checkered flag with a last lap pass. Haufe, Parker Traves, Caleb Drimmie and Mackenzie Milwain completed the top 5.
Parker Traves and Matt Haufe took a turn at the front of the field for the 2nd of the Legend Car main events. Along with Adam Cuthbertson, Mackenzie Milwain and Caleb Drimmie, the front running quintet started putting backmarkers a lap down with just over a handful of laps complete. An issue on the backstretch with 13 laps on the scoreboard saw Traves, Haufe and Cuthbertson recruit Cole McFadden and Keaton Pipe for the top 5 on the restart. A pair of late race yellows created another trophy dash, with Parker Traves leading the way to the checkered flag for his 3rd 2026 win in 4 Peterborough Speedway starts. Haufe, Adam Cuthbertson, Pipe and McFadden rounded out the top 5.
KOD Disposal Ontario Bandolero teams hit the track for a pair of 15 lap semi features. No. 30, Josh Davenport took the checkered flag in each round. Lucas Finnegan, Ava Boundy, Keegan Moat and Ethan Dobb rounded out the top 5 in the opener. Ethan Dobb, Owen Ephgrave, Landon Sellers and Finnegan filled out the fast 5 in the second round.
Qualifying events earlier in the night saw Cameron McGlashan and Josh Lavalle share the Mini Stock preliminary rounds, while good friends Paul Boundy and Donovan Price each had a Super Stock checkered flag.
All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review and post race inspection.
Bullring bullet points: The first of night’s Ontario Legend Car Series features saw a scary incident when the No. 97 of Wes Cuthbertson barrel rolled in the track’s 2nd turn and brought out the red flag. The car was heavily damaged, but Cuthbertson was able to walk to the speedway safety crew…Former track Late Model runner Mike Wallace took a turn in an Ontario Legend Car Series ride, wheeling the JDC Motorsports No. 69 car…The night’s Kinsmen Club 50/50 draw saw a $660 payday claimed by Connor Dunn…It was nice to see Aundrea Lusk back at the track a week after being injured in a Mini Stock crash. Her race season may be over, but she expects to be back in 2027.
The final night of action for the month is next on the 2026 line-up, with the OSCAAR Modifieds and Hot Rods joining the home track Bone Stock, Renegade Truck and Late Model divisions Saturday, July 25th. Timed King of the Hill spectator laps will be the intermission attraction. Grandstand gates open at 5:00, with racing at 6:00.
