Guelph, ON- After weather washed out the short track action at Sauble and Sunset Speedways, the Spira Racing team took advantage of Sunday’s (July 20) Flamboro Speedway rain date to send three cars into Mini Stock action.
Billy Schwartzenburg, in Mark Dennis’ Flamboro-legal #2 car, joined his brother Rick (#72 Hope and the City) and Spira Racing teammate Scott Simmons (#44) at the 1/3-mile Hamilton-area oval, the trio of drivers preparing to challenge the 14 entry home track field in a 25 lap feature.
At the drop of the green flag, all three Spira drivers charged forward from the starting positions, each circulating within the top ten by the end of the second lap.
A blown motor in the #2 car ended Billy’s night after only seven laps, but Simmons remained in contention for the win, eventually taking the checkered flag a single car length behind race winner Mike Holmes (#13).
Rick Schwartzenburg enjoyed a solid run in a “pretty good handling” car to finish in eighth place.
