HALIFAX, NS – Colby Smith (Cape Sable Island) made his first start of the season at Scotia Speedworld a successful one as the 2010 Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman Series champion went to victory lane in the Dartmouth Dodge 100. Smith, in the #17 Wade’s Wire Traps Impala, who started fourth on the grid, took the lead from defending race winner Frankie Fraser (Shubenacadie) with less than 40 laps remaining. Fraser held on to second over a hard charging Dean Clattenburg (Dartmouth), who was to the back bumper of Fraser when the checkers flew. Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside) chased the returning Clattenburg to the line in fourth with Darren Wallage (Oakfield) completing the top five. Wallage pitted early in the event but rallied to finish in the top five.
Fraser, Fred Schofield (Windsor), Carmen Comeau (Meteghan) and Smith Jr captured qualifying heat races in the 31 car field. Jason Brown (Dartmouth) and Laurie Hutt (Belnan) missed the field with mechanical problems.
The Jack Daniel’s Truck division kicked off the evening’s festivities with 2011 champion JP Arsenault (Church Point) capturing the 25-lap main feature after taking the lead on a restart with three laps remaining. Kyle Gammon (Fall River), who led up until the restart had to settle for second, ahead of current point leader Dan Smith (Lower Sackville). Completing the top five in the main feature were sophomore Ryan Goldsmith (Italy Cross) and Jason Fenton (Eastern Passage). The heat race was won by Gammon.
