LONDON, ONTARIO – Rob Atchison will return to Pro Modified Racing Association competition for 2013, and is hoping for more success in the Pro Modified series this season.
The three-time IHRA Funny Car champ ran a limited schedule with his Corvette Pro Modified in 2012, and for this season will once again divide his time between the Pro Modified and some Funny Car racing.
“It’s business as usual,” said Atchison, driver of the Atchison Racing Team. “We have no big changes planned for this year. I think we have the car where we want it to be.”
He added he believes the team has the correct combination for the upcoming racing and is hoping to get out for some testing. The Tim McAmis Race Cars product features a 481X AJPE engine prepared by Atchison Machine Service fitted with a PSI Superchargers D-Rotor screw-type supercharger and an Atchison fuel system. A Lenco three-speed transmission sits behind the engine.
Atchison will be entering his third year of PMRA competition, and once again Bob Atchison will act as crew chief. Others on the team include Kyle Harris, Fraser Evans, Dennis Smith, Mike Papoff, Maxine Atchison and Julie Atchison, and special thanks for the participation of Dave Bankes.
The team is sponsored by Atchison Machine Service, West Coast Transportation, Pennzoil, Fel-Pro, Mahle Clevite, NGK Spark Plugs, Permatex, Speed Pro, Jet Tools and Wiseco Performance Products.
After his initial passes in the Pro Modified, Atchison believes he and the team are comfortable with the car, which has involved a big change from his time behind the wheel of his Funny Car.
“I’m good with the car,” he said. “I’m comfortable and enjoy driving the Pro Modified.”
The 2013 PMRA season opens May 10-11 at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, the first of eight events this year.
