BUDDS CREEK, Maryland (September 21, 2013) – Qualifying is completed and several teams from the Pro Modified Racing Association will be ready for round one at Maryland International Raceway in final round competition for the first annual Pro Mod Challenge at this storied drag strip. This event is part of the track’s 28th Annual Snap-on Tools Superchargers Showdown International Pro Mod Challenge.
This will be the eighth and final event for the 2013 PMRA schedule, now in its ninth year of operation.
Three PMRA champions have qualified for the field in a Canada versus USA event, with the PMRA competing against teams from the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association.
The PMRA will race against the NEOPMA in the Olympics, a 16-car heads-up field. The quickest PMRA teams will race against the quickest NEOPMA teams.
Last year’s PMRA champion, Eric Latino of Whitby, Ontario, qualified his Team Green 1969 Camaro in number six spot with a 5.997, 243.50, and will meet up with Jeff Miller of Strasburg, Virginia who qualified number 14 in his 1957 Chevy with a 6.095, 225.51.
This year’s PMRA champion, Rocky Di Lecce of Mississauga, Ontario, qualified ninth in the field with his 1968 Camaro and a 6.019, 242.32, and is pitted against number 10 qualifier Dean Marinis of Whitestone, New York and his 1967 Camaro, while three-time PMRA champion Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek, Ontario qualified his 1968 Firebird in 13th with a 6.093, 224.43, and his first-round competitor will be eighth qualifier Tommy Gray of Baltimore, Maryland and his Corvette.
Long-time PMRA racer Jack Grainy of Basom, New York, will be racing for the Canadian side, and he and his 1968 Camaro will meet up with Tim O’Hare of Ocean View, Delaware, who qualified number one with a 5.904, 244.29 in his 1968 Camaro.
Another Canadian Pro Modified racer, Jim Bell of Edmonton, Alberta, who qualified seventh with a 5.997, 238.76, will carry the Maple Leaf for the elimination rounds, which are to take place Sunday, September 22, starting at noon.
The International Pro Mod Challenge is one of the largest gatherings of Pro Modifieds with 34 teams competing.
