BRIGHTON, Ont. – Its one week later than expected, but Brighton Speedway is ready to kick off its 2014 season this Saturday with PartSource Dollar Dog Night. After last weekend’s Monster Energy and Kellogg’s season opener was rained out, drivers, officials, and fans are all anxious to finally get back to the dirt.

Fans will be treated to one dollar hot dogs throughout the night, courtesy of PartSource Belleville.

The Vanderlaan Building Supplies Pro Late Models, OilGARD Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks, Bill’s Johns Comp 4s, and Quinte Septic Stingers will all kick off the 2014 season this weekend.

The Quinte Septic Stingers were not scheduled to race last weekend, and teams have been building towards this Saturday’s season opener. Reigning division champion Del MacGregor (No.19) returns to defend his title. He will face heavy competition from teammates Rick Phillips (No.7) and rookie Megan Golden (No.07). Dawson Evans (No.1) and Lynn Innia (No.11) will also battle for rookie-of-the-year honours. Jordan Pickell (No.93) will hope to improve on his third-place finish in the championships standings to challenge MacGregor, while Geoff York (No.3) and Lexi Fletcher (No.41) try to improve on top-10 finishes.

The annual Parade of Champions to benefit the Brighton Fare Share Food Bank was also cancelled last weekend. In order to continue support for the Food Bank, fans will receive a $2 discount off the price of general admission with the donation of a non-perishable food item. Admission (before discounts) is just $10 for adults, youths and seniors are $8, and children 7-12 are $2. A family pass is still just $25.

The first green flag of the season is scheduled to fly at 7:00pm. The grandstand ticket booth will open at 5:30pm. Hot laps begin shortly after 6:00pm.

Next Week: Southern Ontario Sprints and Chili Contest: The Sanderson’s Tire and Automotive Southern Ontario Sprints make their first trip to Brighton this season next Saturday, May 17. The speedway will also host the 4th annual Chili contest. The contest will be judged by some of ROCK 107’s finest. Can your chili knock  defending champion ‘Chili’ MacGregor off his throne? Start thinking about it now!
