This season, Parker Traves is following in his father’s footsteps, ready to take on his rookie season Mini Stock division at Sunset Speedway. “I’m kinda nervous heading into the season cause there are some big names in the Mini Stock field but I think we got the car and capabilities to run with them,” the son of OSCAAR Competitor Albert Traves states.
The Mini Stock division is the lowest division at Sunset Speedway, meant to be a starting stone for drivers that want to get started in racing. Many of todays top stock car drivers in Ontario began at that level in their early teen years.
To help put this deal together, Traves has sponsorship support from T&M Auto Body Gravenhurst, Top Shop Supplies Barrie, K.J. Albion Gravenhurst and Northwood Cabinets Shanty Bay. He would also like to thanks his crew – his dad, sister, Uncle Mike and Bob Mercer.
The 14-year-old hopes this season to run mid-pack all season and possibly pull off a heat win.
He is one of at least six rookies that will be racing this year, which includes Stephen Wilson, Wendy Adams, Travis Watters, Gehrig Halliday and Cody Archibald. Halliday is the grandson of Late Model competitor Gary Elliott while Cody Achibald is the son of Super Stock competitor Dan Archibald.
The Gravenhurst, Ontario native got started in racing as his family has been around racing all of his life.
