What’s On Tap
Five different divisions are in action for the July 21 showdown at the lightning-fast and driver-favourite track. The OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models return to headline the event with a 50-lap showdown. Glenn Watson dominated the Series’ first Kawartha stop on June 3 as he led 38 laps to score the victory. Watson is also the current Series point leader entering the fifth race of the season and has a 16-point advantage over Charlie Gallant. Tyler Hawn, Gary Passer and John Cadman Jr. occupy the top-five spots in the current standings.
The OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models have added incentive to gun for the win as well. Jukasa Motor Speedway will host Outlaw Super Late Models in a $5000-to-win event on August 26 & 27. Alex Nagy, the promoter of Canada’s “Crown Jewel” racetrack, has guaranteed the 21st starting spot to Friday’s Kawartha winner. In addition the $5000 top prize, the driver will guarantee themselves a chance to compete for the $1000 For Your Eyes Only Halfway Leader and $1000 Landing Strip Toronto Hard Charger Award.
The OSCAAR Modified produced a thrilling show during the Kawartha opener on June 3 where Cory Horner picked up his first career win. Horner is also the current Series point leader with a slim three-point gap over Luke Gignac. AJ Emms sits just nine points back in third while Gary Elliott and Dale Reinhardt are fourth and fifth, respectively. More than 20 OSCAAR Modified drivers have confirmed entry for Friday’s event.
The OSCAAR Hot Rod Series returns to action following the first ever dirt race for any OSCAAR series last weekend at Brighton Speedway. Tyler Hawn won that event and the Series’ June visit to Kawartha, which was also the inaugural event for the Series of pre-1974 styled cars. Hawn’s lead is the point standings so far is just three over Adam Misener while Derek Henderson/Dan Price are third and Daryl Fice and Stephen Mayhew round out the top-five.
Last time the Eastern Ontario Legends presented by Trailers Plus stopped at Kawartha, Matt Haufe dominated the event and drove to victory. Since then, Haufe has continue his dominance and is undefeated in 2017 on the tour after recording seven straight victories at three different tracks. The rest of the field will be gunning to knock Haufe from the throne for a rare chance to park in Victory Lane at Kawartha. Haufe, naturally, enters the event as the point leader ahead of Adam and Wes Cuthbertson, who sits second and third, respectively, while Cole Ledson and Terry McClelland occupy the final two spots in the top-five.
The Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds also return to Kawartha with twin 20-lap Features scheduled. The non-points event is expected to attract the top talent from the division as several drivers are eager for the chance to rain on Kawartha’s smooth, high-banked surface. Following last week’s win at Delaware, Jason Keen is the current high-point man with the Vintage Modifieds, but is just four points ahead of Steve Trendell. The combination of TJ Marshall and Chris Bochsler sit third in the standings while the duo of John Karley and Mike Westwood sit fourth and Daryl Henwood rounds out the top-five.
