RIVER GLADE, NB (May 19, 2012) – Champion New Brunswick racer Dave O’Blenis took home the checkers Saturday night at Petty International Raceway as winner of the GT Enterprises Sportsman 150. O’Blenis beat Nova Scotia sportsman champion racer Colby Smith by just a 1/2-car length at the finish line after leading 96 laps en route to the win in what was round one of six for the sportsman series scheduled at Petty this summer. Veteran New Brunswick multi-time champion Bill Sommerville finished third on the 25-car field.
Shawn McLean and Darren Wallage rounded out the top five. Besides O’Blenis, lap leaders were Smith (45 laps led), John Rankin (five laps led), and Graham Hann (four laps led). Sportsman heat race winners were Rankin, Glyn Nott, and Smith.
In Street Stock action it was Martin Landry getting the feature win, followed by Rick Cashol in second and Devin Snell in third. Marshall Berry and Andrew Rodgers rounded out the top five. Berry led 12 laps of the 30-lap feature. Cashol led six laps, and Martin Landry led 12 laps. Berry won the street stock heat race.
The Mr. Transmission Mini Stock 25-lap feature winner was Steve Lively. Brad Daley was second and Mike Brun was third. Deven Smith and Joshua Moore rounded out the top five. Daley led five laps and Lively led 20. Mike Weagle won the Mini Stock heat race.
In Leisure Days/CRC Bandolero action it was Cole Tanner winning the 20-lap feature. Ryan Messer was second and Alexandra O’Blenis (Dave’s daughter) was third. Dawson McIntee and Cole Boudreau rounded out the top five. Tanner led all 20 laps of the feature and won a heat race; the second Bandolero heat race was won by Messer.
