@BrightonSpdwy •BRIGHTON, Ont. – May 5, 2016 – After driving from ninth to third in opening night Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Model action, Wooler, Ont. native Adam Nayler has been named the Brighton Speedway Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week.
Nayler, who drives the Quinte Tire Disposal/Bob Woods Auto Sales No.42 Chevrolet, earned the top-five finish last Saturday in impressive fashion, passing top-three starter Brandon Mowat and defending champion Charlie Sandercock to earn the final podium position. The car wasn’t strong in any one specific area, Nayler said, but rather excellent all the way around the racetrack.
“It felt a lot better than it normally does. I was very happy with it. It was a good car and it was driveable, so we just put it where it had to go,” Nayler explained about his opening night effort.
While Nayler finished a respectable eighth in the championship standings last year, he battled a sometimes frustrating racecar. Nonetheless, he was credited with five top-5 finishes and 11 top-10 results in 17 starts. To improve, Nayler focused on improving his understanding of the car’s suspension system.
“We made a big spring change. I can’t tell you everything, come on now,” Nayler joked.
“We changed some ratings and got it balanced out where it felt a little bit better at the end of the year last year. We started with that (at test and tune) and it seemed to be really good, so we’re going to continue with those numbers for now.”
The veteran driver hasn’t set any finite goals for himself this season other than to chase wins each night. He’s certainly pointed in the right direction following his first time out of the box.
“It feels good knowing we can start the season off on a good note,” Nayler said. “Last year we started off kind of slow and not with the results we wanted. It feels good to be racing in the top-five with those guys.”
Nayler returns to action along with the rest of the Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models on Saturday, May 7 for Lesters Toonie Hot Dog night presented by Classic Rock 107.9 The Breeze. Race time is 7:00pm. Additional event information is available at www.brightonspeedway.com.
