LONDON, Ont. – June 15, 2018 – Matt Pritiko is set to return to action on Saturday, June 16 for the third race on the 2018 APC United Late Model Series schedule for the Series’ lone visit to Peterborough Speedway. Pritiko is excited to take his No.21 Global Warranty/Toyota-Town Camry to the track billed as ‘Canada’s toughest 1/3-mile oval’.
“We enjoy going there every time we venture out east,” Pritiko said. “We’ve had pretty good success there as well. We finished second once in the Autumn Colours Classic and we were in the top-three last year before a coil broke.”
Like most races with the APC tour, qualifying will be an important key towards finishing up front at the end of the 100-lap race, Pritiko believes. That’s especially true at Peterborough, a track with a reputation for being unforgiving.
“I think we need a good qualifying effort to stay in the top-five,” Pritiko said. “It’s a tough place to pass. You’re generally only passing when somebody makes an error or if you get a good run on a guy coming out of the corner. A good qualifying effort is what we need to have a chance to win the race.”
Pritiko enters the third race of the campaign sitting third in the 2018 championship standings, 15 points pack of leader JR Fitzpatrick and just three points back of Brandon Watson for second. At each event, Pritiko is racing those two drivers on the track and in the standings, he said.
“It goes through your mind every time you’re behind them,” laughed Pritiko. “I learned last year that as long as your stay in the top-three throughout the season, you’re going to be up there at the end of the year for points and that’s when you can make your charge. Regardless, whenever you’re behind them you want to try and capitalize when you can.”
Pritiko was in contention for the win last year at Peterborough before a parts failure ended his day prematurely. This year, Pritiko feels he will bring as good a car or better to the Lift Lock City and hopes to get the monkey off his back and earn a victory.
“It’s a much-needed win,” Pritiko admitted. “We didn’t get a win last year unfortunately, so we’re due for a win and we need one to narrow the points. The way the points are structured now, if something to happens to anybody, you can leap frog them. Hopefully we can pick up a spot in the standings, if not two.”
Race time for the APC United Late Model Series at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday, June 16 is 5:00pm. For additional event information, visit www.peterboroughspeedway.com and www.apcracingseries.com.
