MILLGROVE, Ontario (December 30, 2019) — After watching a thrilling conclusion with last year’s champion crowned, it’s no wonder fans are excited about watching the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series return to Flamboro Speedway in 2020.
The series will visit the 1/3 mile on three occasions in their 14th season of competition. They will open their campaign on May 16, before returning for their second appearance on September 12. The 2020 Champion will then be crowned on October 3 as part of Frostoberfest weekend.
Founded in 2007 as the Ontario Sportsman Series, it is the unofficial successor to the CASCAR Sportsman Series following NASCAR purchasing CASCAR. The series was initially based off of the 2005 Sportsman rulebook.
The series ran a pair of 100-lap features at Flamboro 2019, with their first appearance in August playing witness to a dominating performance by Kevin Gallant. Quick qualifier Steve Arrand gave it a good charge, making his way up into second on Lap 28 after having to start fourth. Although he got a chance to start alongside Gallant on a couple late-race restarts, he was unable to get by, settling in for a second-place finish.
They would return in September, with Chad McGlynn making his way to the lead on Lap 31, and pacing the feature the rest of the way en route to winning. Meanwhile, Gallant and Connor James came into the night tied for the top spot in the standings, with the battle coming down to the final laps as James passed him in the closing stages for third and the championship.
This announcement just increases the excitement ahead of 2020 after hearing details revealed between a pair of visits for the APC Series, and the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds having their first opportunity to chase after the Frostoberfest soap carvings trophy. You also cannot forget the opportunity for the Klotz Auto Repair & Machine Shop Mini Stocks to chase after $1,000 as part of the Gold Rush, or the return of the Ontario Legends Series.
The rest of the details for the entire 2020 schedule will be revealed by track officials closer to the start of the season.
