@flamborospdwy • Ontario’s most talked-about travelling short track motorsports series in years visited Flamboro Speedway Saturday, June 6 and Colborne’s Linc Brown was in the thick of the fight from the moment his team rolled through the pit gates.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve run with a group like this,” said Brown. “There’s a big difference between being at the same track every week and being part of a roving tour. These races have a highly competitive field and the biggest concern for almost all of us is making the show. Being able to take the green flag – no matter where you end-up starting – will often be half the battle. After that, it can all come down to some good racing luck and catching a break by being in the right place at the right time.”

During the pre-race practice sessions, Brown’s ride exhibited a tight condition. There was plenty of speed in the straightaways, but he had to hold-off on getting back into the throttle coming off the corners. Some attention from the crew – including good friends Doug Benedict and Jamie Wagar – worked to solve the problem and with a new set of tires, he was able to qualify 18th out of 30 cars to time trial.

A little higher in the running order would’ve been nice, but with some of the bigger names in the field needing a provisional to make the show, the team started to work on a set-up for the 100 lap main event.

From the drop of the green flag, Brown says the car raced well and turned some consistent laps. Staying on the bottom of the track provided a good racing line, but also left nowhere to go when a contact between a couple of other cars brought out a yellow flag with close to 25 laps in the record books. Taking advantage of the caution period, the driver of the #99 headed pit-side to have some cosmetic damage taken care of. While off the track, there was also time to adjust tire pressures which help the handling issue.

“We debated making that change, but it made sense to do it while we were already there,” admitted Brown. “You can have the fastest car in the field, but if it won’t come off the corner, you’ll never get to the front of the pack. On the restart, I could feel the difference right away. I was able to get back on the gas sooner than before and managed to run near the top 10 in the field.”

Even though the car was running better and faster than it had been, there weren’t enough laps left in the day to mount a solid charge to the front and the team was forced to accept a 14th place finish. In hindsight, Brown says it was a decent day and provided a solid set of notes to take to the next event.

“We ran all the laps and I’m very proud of everything the team was able to accomplish. We’re in the game against some tough competition and I feel good about our chances for the rest of the schedule.”

Linc Brown Motorsports is pleased to announce the addition of Milner Financial, Financial Planners and Insurance Brokers to this year’s sponsorship team. Next of the agenda for the #99 Kawartha Metals Corporation, Don Butt Auto Body, Belleville Transmission & Auto Service, Mayhew Graphics, Rousseau Publications and Clarke Motorsports Communications Late Model team is Friday, June 26th at Delaware Speedway.
