MILLGROVE, ON — Returning to where it all began, Kyle Steckly proved he can still master the 0.333-mile semi-banked oval, delivering a dominant performance in the July 12 APC United Late Model Series’ London Recreational Racing 100 at Flamboro Speedway.
After qualifying second with a lap of 15.187 seconds, Steckly remained within striking distance of the leader through the early stages. He made his move on Lap 32, taking the lead and holding it for the remainder of the race to capture the checkered flag.
Jake Sheridan, who secured the fastest qualifying lap—also clocking in at 15.187 seconds—ran inside the top four all race long and finished as the runner-up. Connor Pritiko followed up his win at Delaware Speedway last month with a third-place finish, ahead of Josh Stade and Dale Shaw.
Former Grisdale Triple Crown Champion Shae Gemmell worked his way forward to finish sixth, followed by Cole Quinton, Ray Morneau, Shawn Chenoweth, and Junior Farrelly. Cory McAllister continued his rookie campaign with an 11th-place finish, trailed by Glenn Styres, Kendra Adams, Mike Bentley, Cory Luciano, and Tyler Di Venanzo.
Lane Zardo Shines Again in Dayco Super Stock Event
Although Lane Zardo only qualified seventh for the Dayco Super Stock feature, he once again showcased why he’s been a frequent visitor to victory lane this season in the Steel City Super Stock Rumble Series. Zardo moved into second on Lap 9 before taking the lead on Lap 21 and controlling the rest of the race to claim the win.
Flamboro veteran Justin Collison crossed the line second, followed by Nic Ramsay and Hudson Nagy. Carson Nagy, who started the day by setting the fastest qualifying time at 16.498 seconds, finished fifth ahead of Shawn Chenoweth, Ryan Dyson, and Randy Kuykendall.
Rutherford and Willigar Split Vintage Modified Features
Rodney Rutherford took the lead at the halfway mark to win the first Grindstone Landscaping Canadian Vintage Modified feature, ahead of TJ Marshall, Jae Pepin, Ricky Willigar, and Maddux Pepin. Ty Riopelle, the recent Dash for Cash winner, fought his way to sixth, followed by Doug Hood, Mike Podd, Scott Tonelli, and Ian McIntyre.
Cam Thomson continued to shake off early season struggles with an 11th-place finish, followed by Ian Henwood, Dave Evison Sr., Steve Murdoch, Heath Penny, Samantha Trewolla, and Jordan Ramsbottom.
In the second feature, Ricky Willigar took the lead on Lap 13 and never looked back, winning ahead of TJ Marshall, Rodney Rutherford, Ty Riopelle, and Jae Pepin. Multiple-feature winner Mike Podd led early but faded to sixth, with Cam Thomson, Scott Tonelli, Ian Henwood, and Samantha Trewolla rounding out the top 10.
Maddux Pepin ran inside the top 10 for much of the race but faded late to finish 11th, followed by Jordan Ramsbottom, Doug Hood, Steve Murdoch, Ian McIntyre, Heath Penny, and Dave Evison Sr.
Upcoming Event: Saturday, July 19
This Saturday, July 19, will feature the Grisdale Racing Products Pro Late Models, with $2,000 up for grabs in a 50-lap showdown (based on a minimum field of 12 cars). The action-packed night will also include the Grindstone Landscaping Canadian Vintage Modifieds, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Southern Ontario Modified Association Pro 4 Modifieds.
