@Dirty_Fast_03 •@BrightonSpdwy •ROSSMORE, Ont. (April 29, 2016) – The 2015 season was a landmark campaign for Justin Ramsay in Brighton Speedway’s Pro Stock division. Ramsay’s 12 wins in 19 starts along with 18 top-five finishes sent him on a path to his first division championship. He also previously won four-cylinder championships in 2006 and 2012.
The driver of the No.03 Empey Tire/KD Transmission/ABC Taxi Camaro earned the nickname the ‘Rossmore Rocket’ for his accomplished season, but is now faced with the tall task of defending his championship, but this time around he is a marked man. Nonetheless, the Trenton, Ont. native enters the season with a positive attitude.
“We have way too much going on, but it’s very exciting,” Ramsay says of his Dirty Fast Racing team. “I’m just going to try and do what I did last year to get the same type of wins and defend my championship.”
There’s no perfect script or formula for Ramsay to retain the title, he says. Ramsay tries to play the long game with over 20 races on his 2016 schedule at Brighton alone. He knows it’s about looking at the big picture.
“I just try to get my points on the racetrack and make sure I’m being as consistent as I can be,” says Ramsay ahead of the Northumberland County track’s season opener on April 30.
The car will have a new look when it hits the track on Saturday. Ramsay adopted a sharp-looking black paint scheme for the new year, moving away from his traditional red look. The car also features a new body, but the aesthetics sum up the differences from last years car as Ramsay followed an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mantra this winter.
“I made a couple of changes. I changed the body so it looks more like a Camaro, but I didn’t really change too much on the car because it was working pretty well last year,” he says.
The team did the necessary bolt checking and verified everything is in top working order during the off-season. While he was dominant last season, Ramsay knows a number of competitors have made improvements for the upcoming campaign.
“It looks like it’s going to be tough and I think I’m going to have to step my game up,” says Ramsay.
In addition to his weekly calendar at Brighton, Ramsay will travel occasionally to other speedways in Ontario as part of the Duel in the Dirt Pro Stock series.
“I’ll be at Ohsweken a couple times, Humberstone a couple of times, and Merrittville a couple of times. Hopefully I can get down to Brockville for the Fall Nationals,” Ramsay says.
Ramsay’s 2016 title defense at Brighton Speedway begins on Saturday, April 30 at Brighton Speedway. Race time is 7:00pm. For complete event details, visit www.brightonspeedway.ca.
