In the March 9th edition of Spencer Lewis’ Short Track Notebook, we announce the next member of the 2015 Young Guns panel, profile another driver that will be representing the APC United Late Model Series presented by Grisdale at this weekend’s Motorama show, release a never-before-seen episode of Bench Racing and take a sneak peek at Phil Givens’ newly redone Mini Stock ride.
Last week, we announced that Open Wheel Modified standout Dustin Jackson and Sunset Speedway Mini Stock front-runner Jordan Howse were the first two members of our Inside Track Motorsport News Young Guns panel, scheduled for March 15th at the Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo. The pair will be joined on stage by 4 other rising stars, the first of which will be none other than Ohsweken Speedway Crate Sprint Car regular Aaron Turkey. Turkey will be the first Ohsweken Speedway regular to be featured on the panel and will chat all about his head-turning 2014 season, the strength of the Crate Sprint Car division and his plans for 2015. Follow Aaron on Twitter @WildTurkey68.
Here’s our first look at Mini Stock regular Phil Givens’ ride for the 2015 season. The Fergus, ON driver has worked closely with Streamline Race Products’ Shaun McWhirter to completely retrofit his Nissan 240sx, in search of his first career division championship. Givens will compete fulltime at Flamboro Speedway in 2015, alongside perennial contender Russ Aicken and breakout stars Hudson Nagy and Blair Wickett. Givens will hit the track for the first time on May 16th and 17th at Sunset Speedway’s ‘Spring Velocity’.
Expect to see the APC United Late Model Series presented by Grisdale have a strong presence at this weekend’s Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo in Toronto. Last week, series founder and president Luke Ramsay announced that various tour drivers will appear in the APC booth throughout the weekend answering questions, greeting fans and handing out hero cards. Days after confirming that former Sunset Speedway champion Mike ‘Lights Out’ Bentley as the first driver to take part in the weekend meet and greet, the tour has announced that multi-time Sauble Speedway feature winner Josh Stade will also take part in the festivities. ‘Prime Time’ will be in the APC booth on Saturday from 11:30am – 1:00pm. Be sure to follow the APC United Late Model Series on Twitter @UnitedLMSeries for additional updates.
Here’s a previously unreleased episode of Bench Racing featuring Mike Schmidt’s lauded London Recreational Racing team. Champions Shawn Chenoweth (above, by Debbi-Jo Zardo), Brad Collison and Russ Aicken chat about how they joined the team, what it’s like to work alongside one another on a weekly basis, what they hope to accomplish in the future and what pressures they feel being members of one of Ontario’s strongest teams.
