In the January 28th edition of Spencer Lewis’ Short Track Notebook, we bring you up to speed on a returning Barrie Speedway champion, a London star heading to New Smyrna Speedway, the latest addition to our Young Guns Panel at February 9th’s Canadian Motorsports Expo and feature the newest episode of Bench Racing with Open Wheel Modified star Matt Barton and former Lucas Oil TQ Can-Am Midget champion Daniel Bois.
2013 Barrie Speedway Ltd. Late Model champion Gord Shepherd has announced he will return to defend his title in 2014. The Oro-Station, ON driver dominated this past summer, earning 9 trips to victory lane in 16 weeks of competition. ‘The Smoke’ will return with help from marketing partners Progressive Waste, Peter Shelswell, Premier Electric, Montana’s of Orillia, HWY 400 Transmission and Classic Towing.
Shepherd will be honored for his fantastic 2013 campaign on stage at the Canadian Motorsports Expo on February 8th, during Spencer Lewis’ Asphalt Power Rankings presentation as well as the Night of Champions Ceremony.
Jaxson Jacobs will compete at New Smyrna Speedway during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing next month, in the talent-laden Pro Late Model division. The London, ON driver just recently turned 16, and will battle alongside fellow Canadians Kirk Hooker and Andrew Gresel as well as Florida heavyweight Brad May, young standout Garrett Jones, Indiana teenager JJ Haley and off-road truck convert Sheldon Creed.
The 2013 JEGS All-Star Tour Most Popular Driver will make the trip with sponsorship from Rockey’s Harley Davidson, Kitchener Harley Davidson, Raymond Brothers Tents & Awnings, R.G. Gibson & Sons Hardwood Flooring and FM96. Jacobs will pilot a Port City chassis with Phil Harper power. Jax’s father Ken will handle the Crew Chief duties for the 8-night Mini-Season. All of us at Inside Track Motorsport News are eagerly anticipating the upcoming 3rd annual Young Guns Panel at the Canadian Motorsports Expo. The 6-driver panel highlights some of the top young talent in the region on stage at one of Canada’s premiere motorsports events.
Open Wheel Modified star Shane Stickel and Delaware Speedway front-runner Trevor Collver have already been announced for the February 9th event, and they will be joined on stage by our newest addition – 2013 Lucas Oil TQ Can-Am Midgets champion Mack Deman (above, by Thompson Photography).
The second-generation star earned his first career club championship this season, driving for car owner Andy Mackareth, and is one of the brightest stars on a surprisingly young TQ Roster.
