MILLGROVE, ON (May 24, 2019)- After a thrilling start to the Grisdale Racing Enterprises Late Model season at Flamboro Speedway, it will mark the perfect lead-in for the first round of the Grisdale Triple Crown, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 25.
The Grisdale Triple Crown returns to its traditional format, featuring three 100-lap features spread out through the season. The first round takes place on May 25, followed by the second scheduled for August 10. The final 100-lapper is set for October 6 as part of Frostoberfest, with a champion to be crowned.
To continue adding hype towards the event, APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Series announced on Monday that the Grisdale Triple Crown will be a separate championship series as part of their 2019 home track incentive program.
For drivers that compete in the three Triple Crown events at Flamboro Speedway, they are eligible for bonus money being offered by the APC Series.
Drivers who maintain a 100% attendance in the APC Series are eligible for a free tire for an APC event for every fourth home track event they run.
Additionally, if a driver who wins a Triple Crown event has maintained 100% attendance in the APC Series, they will receive a $125 bonus on their next cheque from APC. If the eventual Grisdale Triple Crown Champion is a full-time APC Series competitor, they will be eligible for a $1,000 bonus.
It is also worth noting that if a driver can win both the APC Series Championship and Grisdale Triple Crown, they are eligible for a $5,000 bonus.
A full field of drivers is expected to be in attendance this weekend, including those who will be competing at Flamboro Speedway weekly all season long.
Following three victories in four races, J.R. Fitzpatrick leads the standings by 17 points over Kevin Albers. Fitzpatrick is no stranger to being successful, as he is the defending APC Series Champion. He is also entering the event off of a sixth-place finish in the APC Series season opener for 2019 at Sunset Speedway.
Although Fitzpatrick is the only driver to start the season with a top-five finish in each of the four features ran at Flamboro Speedway thus far this season, the competition is right on his toes. Albers, Mark Burbridge, and Rick Burbridge have each scored three top-fives in the first four races.
Hudson Nagy has also proven to be fast at Flamboro Speedway, scoring three feature victories last season. Although he has yet to pick up a checkered flag in 2019, he picked up a third-place finish in the second feature on opening night.
Jake Sheridan was able to score the Triple Crown victory last year via the three feature format at Frostoberfest. The past APC Series Rookie of the Year scored finishes of fifth and a pair of thirds en route to picking up the crown jewel. He has shown speed on the big stage, scoring a third-place finish in the APC Series standings last season.
Andy Kamrath will hope to build upon his impressive resume this weekend after visiting Pro Late Model feature victory lane in 2017 when the APC Series was at Flamboro Speedway. He is no stranger to winning crown jewels, having won Frostoberfest on a couple occasions in the Mini Stock.
APC Series season opener podium finishers Dale Shaw and Billy Schwartzenburg have both stated their intentions to be in attendance. Both drivers grew up racing at Flamboro Speedway, gaining plenty of experience with multiple visits to victory lane.
Ryan Kimball has also shown speed at Flamboro Speedway previously, scoring a runner-up in the Grisdale Triple Crown standings last year with finishes of second, fifth, and sixth.
Saturday night will also feature action from the Klotz Auto Repair & Engine Machine Shop Mini Stocks and McClurkin Properties Cambridge Pure Stocks. The pit gate opens at 3 pm, followed by the front gate opening at 5pm with racing starting at 6:30 pm.
Please note that Sunday is the rain date if the event does not run as scheduled on Saturday night. The pit gate would open at 12 pm, with racing starting at 3 pm.
