The Victoria Day Weekend Drags, held May 19-21 at Toronto Motorsports Park (Cayuga, ON), was the first major drag racing event of the 2017 season in Ontario. With the NAPA Auto Pro Ultimate Showdown Series bringing out some of the area’s best Pro Mods, Alcohol Funnycars, Extreme 10.5, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster cars, it was scheduled to be a jam-packed event. The Can-Am Stock/Superstock Series and Race Cayuga Sportsman Series were also on the very busy bill, while jet car exhibitions and a Top Fuel Dragster pass added to the excitement.
Saturday’s action was marred by three major crashes and high winds; while all drivers walked away from their crashes, they caused the program to be delayed significantly, and the high winds forced promoters to cut all classes to 1/8-mile only. Come Sunday, persistent rain throughout the area caused the cancellation of the remainder of the show.
The NAPA Auto Pro Ultimate Showdown Series returns to TMP for the Nitro Nationals on June 30-July 2.
