MILLGROVE, Ontario (September 8, 2020)— In a busy day with five different divisions in attendance, there would be close racing with plenty of races coming down to the final laps as the competitors battled it out for the glory.
Ontario Sportsman Series
Shawn McGlynn was quickest in time trials with a lap of 16.135 seconds ahead of Chad Corcoran (16.383), Brad Collison (16.387), Gerrit Tiemersma (16.392), and Ken Grubb (16.403). The action started right from the drop of the green flag with Matt Robblee and Kevin Lay going around in the first corner.
The second attempt to start the event was clean, with Collison and Shawn McGlynn side-by-side for the lead ahead of Grubb. Collison got the top spot on Lap 2 ahead of Grubb, with Gallant alongside McGlynn. Gallant took over third a lap later ahead of McGlynn and Corcoran. The green flag wouldn’t last, though, with the second caution on Lap 8 for Robblee going around in turn three and four. Under the yellow flag, McGlynn gave up the fourth spot to head to the pits.
Collision got a good restart with Gallant up to second ahead of Grubb. Gallant would not let Collison get far away, looking underneath the leader for the top spot. There’d be contact with Collison coming down a little, going around in turn four for the third caution at Lap 9.
Gallant restarted the leader now ahead of Grubb with Corcoran up to third ahead of Tiemersma and Chad McGlynn. Tiemersma got sideways off of turn three on Lap 13, allotting McGlynn move up into fourth ahead of Wheller.
McGlynn would look to challenge Corcoran for third, with contact between the pair, allotting Wheller to get a run to the inside of both down the backstretch. Now three-wide, there’d be more contact with Wheller going around for the fourth caution on Lap 11.
The restart would see McGlynn get loose off of turn four, getting into the frontstretch wall. Additional contact in the process from Hryniuk would get McGlynn further up the wall, resulting in the No. 18 going up on his side, riding the wall, before rolling over upside down entering turn one. Thankfully, McGlynn was uninjured in the crash.
Gallant got a good restart holding serve ahead of Grubb and Corcoran, with Collison back up to fourth ahead of Tiemersma.
Kevin Gallant picked up the checkered flag ahead of Ken Grubb, Chad Corcoran, Brad Collison, and Gerrit Tiemersma. Tim Burke finished sixth, followed by Kevin Trevelin, Kevin Lay, Brent Wheller, and Bob Merrifield. Matt Robblee placed 11th, followed by Michael Hryniuk, Bruce Wheller, Shawn McGlynn, Anthony Folino, and Chad McGlynn.
Starting on the front row, Ken Grubb grabbed the early advantage in race two ahead of Kevin Gallant, Chad Corcoran, Gerrit Tiemersma, and Tim Burke. The race appeared to have a green flag appearance with everybody running fairly clean through the field. However that hit a snag when Tiemersma made contact with Corcoran on Lap 12 off of turn two, resulting in both drivers going around for the caution.
Grubb got a good restart with Brent Wheller moving up into second ahead of Colliison as Gallant fell back to fourth ahead of Burke. Wheller’s strong run came to an end on Lap 16, as he’d go around off of the corner, collecting Trevelin in the process.
The restart would see Collison break sideways allowing Grubb to get away as Gallant moved back into second with Collison back to third. McGlynn now ran fourth ahead of Tiemersma.
Although Gallant was able to run down Grubb for the lead and make a couple peaks inside, he was unable to totally get alongside. Ken Grubb, therefore, led the rest of the way en route to checkered ahead of Kevin Gallant, with Shawn McGlynn making the late pass on Brad Collison for third.
Gerrit Tiemersma rounded out the top-five ahead of Chad Corcoran, Brent Wheller, Tim Burke, Michael Hryniuk, and Matt Robblee. Bob Merrifield finished 11th, followed by Kevin Lay, Bruce Wheller, Kevin Trevelin, Chad McGlynn, and Anthony Folino.
Young Drivers of Canada – Canadian Vintage Modifieds
Jake Gilbert won the first heat ahead of Quinton Murdoch, Bill Stoner, Brian Prescetti, Michael Kenny, and Health Penney.
Rick Willigar scored the victory in the second qualifier ahead of Joe Arsenault, Keith Temple, Amanda Stoner, Connor Ross, Steve Murdoch, and Patrick Reulens. There was a quick caution on Lap 1 involving Murdoch and Ruelens.
Daryl Henwood won the third heat ahead of Jerrid Morphy, TJ Marshall, Mike Klotz, and Bill Pearsall.
The feature did not start off smoothly, with Amanda Stoner spinning off of the pole, collecting Mike Klotz as he got into the backstretch wall, done for the event.
The second attempt to start the event was better, as Jake Gilbert stole the early lead ahead of Joe Arsenault, Quinton Murdock, Rick Willigar, and Jerrid Morphy. The race did not start as Keith Temple wanted, stopping in turn four, with the caution coming out on Lap 5 for Pearsall going around in one and two.
Gilbert got a good restart ahead of Arsenault, Willigar, Morphy, and Marshall. The third caution then came out on Lap 12, with Ruelens making significant contact with turn three and four wall. The restart would see Gilbert lose the driveshaft, ending his dominating run, as Arsenault spun in the aftermath, collecting Pearsall and Heath Penney.
Rick Willigar inherited the lead, getting a good restart ahead of Morphy, Marshall, Henwood, Rutherford, and Murdock. Arsenault would go around once again on Lap 14, but spun into the infield, allowing the race to keep going. Other drivers ran into problems over the next couple of laps, with both Henwood and Rutherford both heading pit side with issues.
Rick Willigar led the rest of the way, scoring the victory ahead of TJ Marshall, Jerrid Morphy, Quinton Murdock, and Steve Murdoch. Connor Ross finished sixth, followed by Joe Arsenault, Brian Pescetti, and Rodney Rutherford. Daryl Henwood placed 11th, followed by Keith Temple, Jake Gilbert, Heath Penney, Bill Stoner, Bill Pearsall, Patrick Ruelens, Amanda Stoner, Michael Kenny, and Mike Klotz.
Ontario Legends Series
Taking the early lead, Miles Tyson drove away from the field en route to a dominating Ontario Legends Series victory.
Miles Tyson won the first heat ahead of Kenny McNicol Jr., Joe Adams, Shane Pollock, Thomas Dunn, Jeremy Coulter, and Andrew Massey.
The second qualifier did not start off strongly, with Wesley Cuthbertson going around the first lap. Jeff Forsey would then loops it off the corner on Lap 5, but was able to get it back the right away and keep going. Adam Cuthbertson scored the victory ahead of Parker Traves, Forsey, Glen Morris, Wesley Cuthbertson, Brandon Feeney, and Wendy Adams.
Miles Tyson grabbed the early advantage ahead of Joe Adams, Adam Cuthbertson, Parker Traves, and Kenny McNicol. The field would get into lap traffic early, with Adams getting caught behind Wendy Adams on Lap 6. This allowed Traves to move into second ahead of Cuthbertson, and McNicol. The first caution came out shortly thereafter on Lap 9 for Morris going around by himself in turn two.
Tyson got another good restart to carry his advantage forward, with Adam Cuthbertson back into second, bringing McNicol through with him as Traves fell to fourth. McNicol would give Adam Cuthbertson a shot on Lap 13, but was unable to complete the pass. The smooth run through the laps hit a snag with the second caution on Lap 16 for Traves going around. Under the caution, Massey headed pit side, done for the event.
Miles Tyson got a good restart, pacing the way through the second half en route to winning ahead of Adam Cuthbertson, Parker Traves, Joe Adams, and Kenny McNicol Jr. Jeff Forsey finished sixth, followed by Shane Pollock, Thomas Dunn, Glen Morris, and Brandon Feeney. Wendy Adams placed 11th, followed by Wesley Cuthbertson, Andrew Massey, and Jeremy Coulter.
Nolan Gould won the first heat ahead of Will Gibbons, Kyle Steckly, Karl Sault, Kyle Istead, Wayde Thorne, Jeff Laflamme, Allan Lankin, and Mike Thomson.
J.R. Fitzpatrick was victorious in the second qualifier ahead of Jason D’Antimo, Ryan D’Antimo, Jeremy Taggart, Kaitlyn Wallace, Carol Dawson, Matt Young, and Brock Baker.
Shawn Taylor won the final heat ahead of Chris Pendlebury, Dale Millard, Tyler Lewis, Connor Maltese, Ryan Edwards-kiss, Andrew Packer, Jeff McKibbon, and Rob Welles.
The feature started off in dramatic fashion, with Taggert going for a slide through the infield following contact. Gould would grab the advantage on track ahead of Taylor, Pendlebury, and Fitzpatrick, as Gibbons and Sault battled for fifth. Gibbons got the spot on Lap 4 ahead of Sault and Lewis, as Young headed pit side with an issue.
Fitzpatrick began his charge forward, getting alongside Pendlebury for third, and passing on Lap 18, bringing Gibbons through with him. With the green flag out, the leaders began to weave their way through lap traffic, with contact taking place between Sault and Allan Lankin for a slide through the grass on Lap 14. Two laps later, the first caution came out for Ryan D’Antimo spinning around in turn three, collecting Taggert and Taylor in the process.
Gibbons got the jump on the restart to take over the top spot ahead of Gould, with Pendlebury and Fitzpatrick side-by-side for third. Gould’s strong run came to an end shortly thereafter, as he slowed with a mechanical issue on Lap 18, heading off the track. This allowed Fitzpatrick to move up into second ahead of Steckly, Pendlebury, and Istead.
Sault continued his climb back through the field, getting by Istead for fifth on Lap 23, followed by passing Pendlebury for fourth two laps later.
Will Gibbons led the rest of the way en route to scoring the checkered flag ahead of J.R. Fitzpatrick, Kyle Steckly, Karl Sault, and Shawn Taylor. Kyle Istead finished sixth, followed by Chris Pendlebury, Tyler Lewis, Dale Millard, and Wayde Thorne. Kaitlyn Wallace placed 11th ahead of Connor Maltese, Brock Baker, Ryan Edwards-kiss, Mike Thomson, Rob Welles, Andrew Packer, Jeff McKibbon, Allan Lankin, and Jeff Laflamme.
Jason D’Antimo finished 21st, followed by Carol Dawson, Nolan Gould, Ryan D’Antimo, Jeremy Taggert, and Matt Young.
The heats were full of action with only six drivers from each transferring to the main event.
Phil Givens won the first heat ahead of Kris Lawrence, Kris Khan, Joe Dunlop, Doug Wilman, and Reece Bourgeois. Keara Gallant was the first to not qualify, followed by Brent Pelley, Steve DeLeeuw, Coltin Everingham, and Jimmy Hooper.
Jordan Morris was victorious in the second qualifier ahead of Andrew Shilling, Nic Ramsay, Zach Harrison, Willow Barberstock, and Kyle Lucas. Jonathan Vey placed seventh, followed by Courtney Scott, Kassy Howard, Austyn Jennett, and Rueben Fluit.
Stephen Finnegan won the third heat ahead of Leo Labarbera, Matthew Boyes, Jennifer Hatch, Matt Langford, and Jo Lawrence. David Rockwood was seventh, followed by Dave Backes, and James Downing.
Shawn Soloman was victorious in the final heat ahead of Gillian Hils, Jamie Klumper, Bobby Mercer, Len Sterritt, and Andy Wheller. Stan Cook placed seventh, followed by Karlie Wilman and Brian Gamble.
Come the b-main, Rockwood took the early lead, with Gallant and Pelley side-by-side for second. Gallant got the spot on Lap 2 ahead of Pelley, followed by DeLeeuw, Everingham, and Fluit. Everingham would get alongside DeLeeuw for fourth on Lap 4, taking the spot a lap later.
The rest of the event ran pretty clean with David Rockwood scoring the win to qualify ahead of Keara Gallant, Brent Pelley, Coltin Everingham, Steve DeLeeuw, and Courtney Scott. Stan Cook was the first to not qualify in seventh ahead of Jon Vey, Karlie Wilman, Brian Gamble, Austyn Jennett, Kassy Howard, and Reuben Fluit. James Downing would fail to finish, while Dave Backes, Jimmy Hooper, and Mike Egert did not take the green flag.
Come feature time, Gillian Hils broke out to the early lead ahead of Kris Khan and Leo Labarbera, but the caution would come out as three-wide between David Rockwood, Matt Langford, and Willow Barberstock would see Barberstock go around heading into turn one.
The restart would not go Givens’ way as he’d slow with an issue, but was able to get it back going. At the front, Khan was able to get by Hils with Finnegan third ahead of Morris, as Labarbera and Soloman battled for fifth. Morris would get alongside Finnegan for third on Lap 7, completing the pass a lap later, as Soloman ran fifth.
Morris was then able to get alongside Hils for second on Lap 15, as Soloman slid sideways through turns one and two, thanks to contact from Courtney Scott. Finnegan continued to run fourth, with Ramsay and Soloman side-by-side for fifth. Ramsay got the spot on Lap 17 ahead of Soloman, with Labarbera close behind as Scott headed pit side.
Morris would work at tracking down Khan for the lead, getting alongside him after a couple attempts. There’d be contact along the way back and forth between them, with Khan able to hold onto the top spot as Morris slid back a couple spots. He’d then slow with additional issues, heading pit side on Lap 32.
Through the process, Ramsay was able to get by Hils to move himself into second, as he became the next driver to track down Khan for the lead. The pair would go back and forth over the final five laps, trading bumps back and forth as they tried to outsmart each other. Khan ultimately took the checkered flag ahead of Ramsay, but both drivers were disqualified post-race.
Gillian Hils was credited the race winner ahead of Shawn Soloman, Leo Labarbera, Bobby Mercer, and Stephen Finnegan. Andy Wheller finished sixth, followed by Matt Boyes, Jo Lawrence, Coltin Everingham, and Kris Lawrence. Jamie Klumper placed 11th, followed by Matt Langford, Brent Pelley, Joe Dunlop, Phil Givens, Andrew Shilling, Doug Wilman, David Rockwood, Kyle Lucas, and Jennifer Hatch.
Reece Bourgeois finished 21st, followed by Keara Gallant, Len Sterritt, Zach Harrison, Steve DeLeeuw, Willow Barberstock, Jordan Morris, and Courtney Scott.

The race card will also include the Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Canadian Vintage Modifieds as of right now. Once again, no spectators will be allowed, but we will have coverage of the events for fans to watch at home.
