MILLGROVE, ON (April 30, 2019)- There’s no doubt that everybody is excited for the race season to begin at Flamboro Speedway. It promises to be a busy summer with lots going on from the first weekend in May, to the Halloween Enduro in October.
Although we originally highlighted the Canadian Vintage Modifieds, Grisdale Triple Crown, Memorial Night, the Super Stock Tire Giveaway, and the Great Canadian Truck Show, there are lots more going on this summer at the Hamilton, Ontario-based oval.
So as you begin to plan what you’re doing this summer, here are five more things that you should keep in mind.
APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour
Since the APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour formed in 2015, it has been featuring the biggest names in Pro Late Model competition, battling across the province for the series championship. This year will be no different with several stars on the tour, including defending series champion J.R. Fitzpatrick, 2018 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division I Ontario Champion Danny Benedict, 2018 APC Rookie of the Year Jake Sheridan, Billy Schwartzenburg, Josh Stade, Andrew Gresel, and more.
The touring division will be visiting Flamboro Speedway on two different occasions – June 8 and July 13.
June 8 will feature the Interstate Batteries 100, along with the speedway’s own Klotz Auto Repair & Engine Machine Shop Mini Stocks and McClurkin Properties Cambridge Pure Stocks.
July 13 will feature the London Recreational Racing 100, along with the Canadian Vintage Modifieds and Pure Stocks.
Demolition Derby
Although it is fun to watch the talented drivers race around the speedway battling for position, it also nice to watch stuff get destroyed as well. Flamboro Speedway will satisfy the fan’s thirst for that excitement by hosting four Demolition Derbies throughout the summer.
The first of those will take place on Saturday, June 29, following a night of action that is headlined by the Ontario Modified Racing Series. The second takes place on Saturday, August 3, with the third scheduled on Saturday, August 31. The final demotion derby is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, alongside the Halloween Enduro 250.
Fan Initiatives
Flamboro Speedway is all about giving the fans the best experience possible. That’s why they have committed to making improvements to the facility over the past couple seasons, along with having track announcer Gary Colling interact with the crowd on a regular basis.
Their commitment extends to the schedule, as well, as there are a couple special feature nights that allow everyone involved to give back to the fans.
Saturday, July 6 is the first scheduled Meet the Drivers Night, which allows the fans to walk the track during intermission and give them a chance to speak firsthand with the competitors handing out autograph cards. Then on Saturday, August 3, the annual Kid’s Ride Night will take place, which allows the younger fans to get a ride around the speedway on-board in one of the racecars.
Lastly, there will be another Meet the Drivers Night taking place on September 7, which also includes a corn roast as part of Memorial Night festivities.
Frostoberfest
The season may be just beginning, but everybody knows that the dates on the schedule lead to two things – the championship, and the year-end Frostoberfest.
The event has gained a reputation across the province as being one of the crown jewels to win, with the prestigious one-of-a-kind igloo trophies up for grabs to the winners. The 2019 edition will take place on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6.
Saturday will feature the Ray’s Towing and Recovery Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, Pro 4 Modifieds, and the Outlaw Midgets.
Sunday will feature the third round of the Grisdale Triple Crown, Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds, Living Lighting Canada OSCAAR Pro Sprints, and the Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods.
Opening Night
While everything throughout the season is great, let’s admit – everybody is hyped up just to watch everything get going. That’s why we hope to see you at opening night on May 4. We will open the year with the Grisdale Racing Products Pro Late Models, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Pro 4 Modifieds on-track.
