FREELTON, ON (January 23, 2018)- The racing season will be here before we know and this year looks to be a real exciting one at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway. We will put the wraps on the 2017 season Saturday February 3rd as we hold our 57th annual Awards banquet at the Royal Canadian Legion in Waterdown.
On that night, the 2018 schedule will be released and lots of excitement came out of our staff meeting and if the chatter on social media is any indication, it will be a good one. It all gets underway April 21st with practice from 1pm until 7pm. The following week racing gets started and a special start time of 4pm for the first night only.
Some other interesting events include the new Super Late Model series having their inaugural race on May 26th with a 75 lap main event. The Gold Rush will make a return to Flamboro this coming summer for the fifth annual event. The date will be Sunday, August 19th and 100 laps as usual but after two years of Super Late Models, the Pro Late Models will make their return for the big pay day. $10,000 has been the pay day in the past, $5000 to win and an extra $5000 if the top qualifier goes to the back and wins the race. J.R. Fitzpatrick will be racing full time at Flamboro in 2018 and he will be chomping at the bit along with all the other stars of Ontario Pro Late Model racing to take the big prize.
The other big news is the Flamboro Stock Car Nationals that will be held June 10th and July 8th. Each race day will see three 50 lap races. Qualifying will be done through time trials and likely a last chance qualifier will be held for the final few spots in each division depending on the number of cars that register each race. Thirty Pure Stocks, thirty Mini Stocks and twenty four Super Stocks will start each race. Big money will be on the table and from what I heard the payout for Mini Stocks is already in the neighborhood of $10,000. Over 50 cars are already planning to attend and even a few of our American Mini Stock friends are talking about making the first event.
Rich Schwartzenberg has taken the job of recruiting sponsorship money and race one laps are all sold out and he is working on the second one now. Pure Stock driver Jonathan Ayrton will be doing the same. This will be a couple of great racing events of the summer for sure. If you would like to see how you can be a part of the action check out the page on Facebook, Flamboro Stock Car Nationals.
